Dissappointing-ly ... Mahathir is not all that

Wisdom consists of knowing how to distinguish the nature of trouble, and in choosing the lesser evil.

Niccolò Machiavelli, The Prince
Most Tun Dr Mahathir supporters blindly take his every words as good without fact checking and giving it a second thought. They believe he always does his homework and always has his facts up his sleeve.

Mahathir is a nice man, soft spoken, humourous and sometimes shy. But he is a different animal when he puts on his political hat on.

Seldom described as a Machivellian politician in every sense of the word. He would not hold back and do anything necessary - one can say anything in the widest of possibilities - in his quest for power and in particular when it comes to toppling a leader down.

Nothing unusual with current happening. He has a history of doing all the seven deadly sin to win a political war.

Do read Malaysia Today here as this blog suspect here and it could be the next flavour here. Be wary of him when he is on a political warpath.

In the latest onslaught to discredit the historic China trip by Dato Najib, he lied in his blog.

It is the outright lying in the last meeting last year that was the turn off and turning point to switch support from him.

Yes, all politicians lie, but a statesman and retired politicans should not any more. More so, one can sense he is up to his Machivellian self and hiding his true intention.

One can discredit Dato Abdul Kadir Jasin for his intentional factual errors and questionable arguments. because he had never had formal education in economics and business.

But for Mahathir to be factually wrong, has he lost his grip or marble .....?

Or it is just his Machivellian self willing to deceive in order to change the public behaviour, opinion and emotion?

Mahathir is not all that.

Dato Abdul Rahman Dahlan issued a statement to response to his latest blog posting on the China trip:

1. I refer to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir's blog post dated 16th Nov 2016 titled "Najib's China Trip" which contains numerous errors and misconceptions - either deliberate or due to a lack of understanding of the details.

2. The MCA President was not trying to make Najib's dealings with China as a racial issue. He was pointing out to the unfair criticism of the historic RM143 billion worth of trade and investment deals that Malaysia had signed with our largest trading partner and investor.

The China delegates who had visited the recent MCA annual assembly had also expressed regret and unhappiness at the opposition over the unfair criticism of our two nations trading and investment deals.

3. The crux of Tun Mahathir's criticism seems to center on the soft loan that Malaysia will take on to build the East Coast Railway project which he said will increase the Malaysia Government's debts considerably and that the main contractor would be a Chinese company.

4. The soft loan given by the Export-Import Bank of China is on very favorable terms with a low interest rate and has a 20 years tenure. It is also denominated in Ringgit Malaysia and not in USD or Yuan as alleged by Tun Mahathir.

This makes Tun Mahathir's argument of foreign exchange risk a moot point.

5. Due to the rapid development of rail link in China over the past two decades resulting in a rail network of more than 125,000 kilometers, there is little doubt that China is now among the leaders in railways and rail technology.

6. Although the main contractor will be China's largest construction company, our agreement is that a significant portion of this work will be sub-contracted to local companies. There will also be a transfer of technology.

7. The structure of this project to involve local contractors is different from the construction of the KLCC where the architect was an Argentinean, tower 1 was contracted to the South Koreans while a Japanese company was built tower 2.

8. It is regrettable that Tun Mahathir also repeats the allegation that on a per kilometer basis, the ECRL is over-priced.  These allegations have already been been proven untrue by detailed answers by Dato' Abdul Rahman Dahlan and by Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

9. To correct Tun Mahathir, the RM55 billion price also includes the cost of all rolling stock, signalling systems and supporting infrastructure.

10. The ECRL is expected to add 1.5% additional GDP growth per year to the east coast states of peninsular Malaysia and can help the east coast states to catch up with development with the west coast states.

11. Additionally, the ECRL will directly connect the Kuantan and Kemamam ports in the east with Port Klang on the west coast resulting in a strategic advantage in logistics handling and shipping for Malaysia.

This 688km long main line plus 20km of spur tracks will be a game-changer.

12. As with any greenfield infrastructure project with strategic importance, there is significant economic multiplier and spill-over effects that will boost economic economy.

This will mean that we will more than recover its investment in the ECRL from additional tax gained, asset appreciation and other direct and or indirect revenues.

13. Tun Mahathir and his colleagues in the PPBM opposition party continues to wrongly state that 1MDB's debt is RM53 billion despite knowing that 1MDB had undergone a rationalization exercise.

14. Due to the successful divestment of Edra Energy, a stake in Bandar Malaysia and other rationalization exercises, 1MDB's debt has been significantly reduced to about RM31 billion.

Despite knowing this, how is it possible that Tun Mahathir still insist that 1MDB's debt remains at RM53 billion?

15. Other than the three outstanding long-term bonds are with tenures of 10 years to 30 years are appropriately matched to revenues and profits of 1MDB's current projects.

Other than these bonds, no other 1MDB loans or debts remains.

16. 1MDB currently has RM1.9 billion in cash that will allow it to further develop its strategic Tun Razak Exchange and Bandar Malaysia projects that will add significantly to Malaysia's growth over the next decade.

17. It is unfortunate that Tun Mahathir has been wrongly advised that the government's current outstanding debt of RM600 billion is denominated in US Dollars where he allege that due to the strengthening of the US currency, our government debt is now RM900 billion.

18.  For Tun Mahathir's information, according to Bank Negara's latest statistics, 97% of Malaysia's debt is denominated in Ringgit Malaysia. Any changes in foreign exchange rates has only a marginal effect on the value of our government debt.

19. The government's conscious decision to only borrow in Ringgit Malaysia was a result of learning from the past where Tun Mahathir's government had borrowed substantially from Japan with loans denominated in Yen to construct mega-projects - among others, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Transfer Project, the Kenyir Hydroelectric Power Plant  and the Port Dickson Power Station projects.

The subsequent appreciation of the Japanese Yen after the loans had caused significant losses to our country.

20. The current government is determined not to repeat this mistake of the past and that is why the government's debt is denominated in Ringgit Malaysia and is only marginally affected by foreign currency exchange movements.

21. As a result of his personal vendetta, Tun Mahathir in partnership with the opposition continues to resort to using lies and scare tactics to repeatedly undermine the confidence of all Malaysians and allege that Malaysia is on the path of bankruptcy.

22. Since the founding of Malaysia, the opposition led by the DAP had continuously claimed that Malaysia will soon go bankrupt. Those who have lived in the 1960s onwards can attest to this.

Despite more than 50 years of these bankrupt allegations, Malaysia continues to grow from strength to strength.

23. Currently, all three major international credit rating agencies gives Malaysia an "A" credit rating which signifies investment grade. Our GDP growth recently recovered in the 3rd quarter to 4.3%, we are now in our 227th consecutive  month of trade surplus, we have a current account surplus and our foreign exchange reserves holds steady at USD97 billion.

No one else, except Tun Mahathir and the opposition claims that Malaysia is going bankrupt - and they have said the same thing for more than 50 years.

24. We would also like to ask Tun Mahathir why Malaysia did not go bankrupt when he more than doubled our debt from 44% to 103.4% Debt-to-GDP ratio in 1986 within the first 5 years of him becoming prime minister.

If at 103.4%, we did not go bankrupt then. So how is it that with the current debt-to-GDP ratio of 54%, Malaysia will go bankrupt now?

25. It is hard to take Tun Mahathir's words seriously nowadays. Due to his political agenda and personal vengeance, he has u-turned on so many things he had said of in the past - among these include his views on Anwar Ibrahim, BERSIH, George Soros, DAP and his call for foreign intervention.

26. However,  by resorting to outright lies and baseless allegations to continually undermine confidence in our country's economy and by actively sabotaging our foreign trade deals and investments, you are helping to destroy Malaysia’s economy.

BARISAN NASIONAL STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS TEAM,
PUTRAJAYA

16 NOV 2016

------------------------------

To clarify a point in the statement made by the BN Strategic Communications team yesterday evening, the soft loan facility for the ECRL is in a mix of Chinese Yuan and Ringgit -  and not just in Ringgit alone.

However, there will be no exchange rate exposure risks for us as at the point of the first draw-down of the loan, the Yuan-Ringgit exchange rate for loan repayment purposes will be fixed for the remainder duration of the loan. This fixed rate shall also apply for future draw-downs and repayments of the RMB denominated portion of the loan.

This has the effect of denominating all loan repayments in Ringgit terms at a fixed RMB-RM exchange rate which eliminates the risk of exchange rate fluctuation.

Therefore, there will still not be any foreign exchange risks for this loan as alleged by Tun Mahathir.

Point 4 of the previous statement has been amended as such.

Dato' Rahman Dahlan,
Director of BN Strategic Communications

Someone texted us:
The Clinton, Obama and many others American leaders and media asked Americans to give Trump a chance to lead and manage their country. Mahathir must learn from them. Leaders are not meant to manage a country for ever. Only prophets are allowed to do so by the grace of Allah. So tell Mahathir to grow up and not to remain as a child forever.

Maybe he is just in his second childhood phase.

Doesn't serve the purpose

Here we go again.

Everytime there is an election coming, they will have a Bersih demonstration. Let's not beat about the bush to claim it is peoples' voice.

At every demonstration, they will keep uttering the same demands in which have been fulfilled. There is a system in place and if any weakness, it is not systematic in nature but execution issues.

As far as election process is concerned, it is fairly tampered free. If there had been any problem, it is non-systematic in nature like people, machine or maybe natural catastrophe.

Recently a member of the opposition; namely former EC Chairman, former Vice President of Perkasa and now Vice President of PPBM, Tan Sri Rashid said the election process during Mahathir's time was fair. After many Bersih and upgrading, it must be super fair by now.

Bersih does not serve any purpose at all. It a political manouvre to start a perception momentum against the ruling government.

The synonyms for demonstrate turns up a whole list of words but most closest to described the Bersih demonstration planned for tomorrow should be exhibit, and show and tell.  The Malay word for demontration is "tunjuk perasaan" which is expression.

If that is the purpose, there is no need to do in such big numbers of turn-up. A certain numbers and some media coverage should be sufficient to get message through.

No need for massive numbers which disrupt traffics and traders like Syed Akbar who complains repeatedly of Bersih demonstration affecting his jewellery business on the most busy day of the week. Will he be consistent to oppose Bersih 5.0 this year now that Mahathir call on Malaysian to attend Bersih 5.0, while he is off to Sweden?

Some will argue that the more the numbers the louder will the message and the more urgency it will get attention. True but after sometime, it is no more the message any more. If turns out violence, what message can it get through?

Bersih demands?

The demand for Bersih 5.0 are clean elections, clean government, uphold parliamentary democracy, right to dissent and empower Sabah and Sarawak.

The reply would be:

As far as the 6th demand, will Mahathir agree?

Some suspect he is off to Sweden to get political asylum. Tan Sri Pairin Kitingan announced that the RCI on illegal issuance of IC to foreigners in Sabah has completed its work and heard some of the reccommendations are severe!

UPKO has just challenged Shafie and his Warisan new political party, a Johnny-come-lately into the Sabah for Sabahan struggle to review the Malaysia Agreement 1963. to state their position on which Prime Minister, Dato Najib agreement for a review.

Their reaction to Kitingan's soon to be recommendation would be interesting.

No purpose

Really, what purpose will Bersih serve? Do one get things done through such expression? The policy maker cannot do anything based on anger, hatred and noises.

The real work isn’t in the streets

Protests are a great way to dramatise a statement, but are the right people getting the message?

COMMENT

As Bersih 5 approaches, there is a fear that the protest would turn ugly. Months of agitation and outright violence from Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Yunos and his Red Shirts against Bersih have led us to expect a confrontation tomorrow. At the very least, emotions will run high even if the police succeed in preventing contact between the two groups.

Regardless of what may happen, there remains an essential problem which has yet to be solved. While mass demonstrations are certainly eye-catching as far as statements go, the true problem lies in the disconnect between the city and countryside, between the urban and rural votes.

The lesson we’ve learnt from the last two elections is that the high moral arguments and the accusations of corruption have not moved those whose concerns are an economy that seems ever more intent to abandon them.

A protest does not accomplish anything towards educating the masses as to why they should be concerned with corruption and international scandals involving numbers they cannot even imagine. The real work, as it has always been, lies in the toil of helping every Malaysian become cognisant of the role his vote plays in ensuring good governance. It lies in teaching voters that a vote is something that should not be sold for money, that voting is not only a right, but a responsibility that every eligible voter must exercise.

That is certainly a much harder task than gathering a group of protesters from among those already committed to the cause. One suspects the ranks of Bersih may be swelled this year by those tired and frustrated by the hooligan antics of the Red Shirts, but the additional protesters will still be from the same core of opposition supporters and civil society members.

Members of the liberal elite tend to be far presumptuous about the support given to them. That is why the voting pattern does not change. It is said that the elite fears the ignorance of the masses and the masses fear the indifference of the elite. In the wake of the Trump victory and Brexit, the truth of that statement must be something for the liberal elite to ponder as we head into yet another election with a weak, fractured opposition and an incumbent that keeps close to the down-to-earth concerns of the rural masses.

It is certainly hoped that things will be kept under control tomorrow. Violence has no place in a civilised protest, and no one wins by resorting to it.
It brings us to other words synonymous with demonstrate like determine, establish, exhibit, expose, indicate, manifest, prove, test, testify, try, validate, authenticate, evidence, evince, flaunt, make evident, make out, and roll out.

Because that is what it is all about. To sum it, to change government has to be done through elections and to get their numbers. Dato Najib has clearly said that he will not withdraw from pressure of street protest.

He should not do so because he was constitutionally elected. He has more supporters in Parliament than the presumably the representatives of Bersih has. And we should not allow such political culture to set in.

The outcome of the Trump-Clinton elections tells us that it is not just liberal agenda that is the criteria voters consider to select leadership of the country. Yet this people keep regugitating the same old rethorics.

Bersih 5.0, a T shirt selling scam?

The IGP's words is wise.

If it is not for the oppressed people of Palestine, there are many other good cause the money to buy that T shirt could be channeled.

Since leaving Perkasa out of frustration with the myopic views of the many "mantan"s still stuck in a timewarp and all talk with no initiative, any NGO with only politically motivated agenda without any specific program is viewed with scepticism.

Same with Bersih.

Despite what agenda or progressive change Ambiga or Maria Chin claim to propagate, it is all rhetorics without any firm plan and merely political or power quest in agenda.

Thus, they might as well not hide anymore. More so with power hungry Mahathir on their side. It exposes their political pragmatism nature.

Admit it that they are politicians and just join the opposition or form another opposition party.

More so, it is no more a secret that they are recipients of Open Society Foundation.

OSF is the foundation front of the opportunistic international financier that strive by covertly creating economic chaos globally by financing dissidents willing to carry out their evil liberal ideology.

Off course, this have been heard repeatedly leading to every Bersih demonstrations.

But the latest DCLeaks document proves what had been brush off as conspiracy theory turned out true. Finally, the left had to admit it and now argue what is wrong to receive it and justify the agenda of the evil Jew they like and try divert away from his insidious history of economic destruction.

Basically, the yellow revolution they are attempting to create is as any other colour revolution are funded by foreign covert ops.

Money scam

The red revolution that emulated the Thailand phenomenon of the past was created to neutralise or limit the effectiveness of the yellow revolutioners. They say it is linked to UMNO or pro-government outfit. At least, that is what part Soros-owned Malaysiakini claimed.

If both sides has their donors, it means money was poured in to make available the yellow and red T shirts to the participants.

Now this could be only information from sources but it is one source that have repeatedly proven to be reliable and most of the time turned out to be true. It seemed both the yellow and red T shirts were made from the same factory thus raising the suspicion there could be a scam syndicate.

And, the yellow people sold RM600,000 worth of T shirts. Despite getting sponsors, they were making money from the people they incite to become demonstrators. Donor they makan, people also they makan.

The red side was known not to be selling it so one can assume it is sponsored. The convenient assumption is it is some UMNO-linked sourced. But that is too obvious. Lets think outside the box. What if the red T shirt people got their T shirt for free?

Some bloke sponsored some of the earlier red T shirt groups so that their provocative ways would anger the yellow shirt supporters and they go out of the way to buy.

Still a conspiracy theory. It seemed each T shirts were sold by Bersih organisers at RM25 each. So it registers as profit for the limited by guarantee company. Do they take care of GST?

Hope Customs chase them and force these capitalist Soros backed agitators pay their tax even if they oppose GST. RM600,000 sales would amount to 28,000 pieces sold so 6% of RM600,000 is a lot of money due for consumption within the country.

If it cost the factory RM5 each and sold to Bersih at RM10 each, the factory would make RM140,000. Bersih people could make more than RM400,000. After all they promoted Bersih throughout the country in their jelajah convoy.

According to Malaysiakini or shall be known better as Soroskini, there were 40,000 participants today. It means more than RM600,000 sales per order of T shirts. Duit sponsor sapu. T shirt pun sapu. It may come up to juta.

It adds to the prove of the point of our previous posting that having Bersih gathering "Doesn't serve any purpose".

Today's rally had about 15-20,000 participants. It means a lot of those that bought the T short did not turn up. Police pre-Bersih roundup may had an impact.

Off course, some say more and some say less. But it is less than Bersih 4.0. And without PAS, the cause is still lost.

The Mahathir effect as Dato Salleh Said Keruak described turned out to be negative.

The message from the demands of Bersih will be lost but what will be talked about among the non-converted is that Mahathir's presence hardly produce the impact. Mahathir was pictured walking with the same bunch of few familiar faces.

The sheer presence of majority Chinese will still be talked about. DAP will be said to lead the PH government should they win. All the bad governance in Penang will be taken to national level.

Only few opposition leaders made their presence but it will still be said that Bersih is opposition and red is UMNO.

Where is the talk of democrasy or electoral process or good governance or reform?

Is not the suggestion to get fewer demonstrators but media coverage better send out the message?

Nevertheless, its only value is political psychological warfare. But that is only if the number had been substantial and no other nonsense happening that divert attention.

The traders that lost a good Saturday income will always be forgotten by the Bersih 5.0 people. The last Bersih 4.0 they refused to clean up their mess. Only the Jalan Masjid India jeweller, Syed Akbar is happey. He thinks the conniving mamak will return to control government.

At the end, it is the T shirt sellers that really untung.

Not straight any more

Bersih is the flavour of conversation over the weekend.

It is seldom claimed as synonymous with the LGBT cause. To put the above picture, it does not mean this posting is about Bersih 5.0.

It is about education. In more specific term, it refers to the UPSR results last Thursday. There will be the mad rush of Malay parents seeking to enroll their children into boarding schools on Monday.

Education is not one subject we love to talk about. First, though having post graduate education, we are not an educationist.

The best people to speak on education should be experts and practitioners like teachers, academicians, researchers, etc. Not even PIBG or parental groups like PAGE, whose motivation is self interest and not the education interest for all Malaysians.

Allowing it be turned into a political referendum like what Tan Sri Muhyiddin did with his Education Blueprint effort was a disaster.

Everyone think they know education just because they went to school and have observations of their children and the few schools they are familiar with.

Secondly, most common discussion on education is narrowed to schooling or University. By right, education should also be seen as a continuous life long process to for the whole population.

Surprise

Anyway, our one and only brother-in-law alerted everyone on the family Whass App group last Thursday morning that it is UPSR result day.

There was silence and sense of nervousness through the day. There are four families with kids waiting for their results.

To relieve undue pressure and more so, the new PT3 approach to UPSR will not give easy straight As, as the family Pak Long, we immediately replied.

"It is just the start of life's journey. What is important is not your success today but to rise again after a lacklustre or failed outcome and to continue success from this one victory."

So it was preparing the family for a major "kejutan".

By noon, information started trickling in. One of the teacher sister-in-law informed that only 1% got straight As.

Many months ago after the exam, she shared the extremely difficult Maths paper. An Engineer brother, whose one and only child sat for UPSR, commented the same then.

Sometime ago, a parent wrote to a local media to complain on the Science paper. Straight As was not going to be easy.

And, there was the one about some allegedly racist questions.

After that short conversation at mid-morning, everyone was quiet.

We were on the road in Johor. By 7 PM, at a brother's home in JB, we asked, "Ooooiiiii dah pukul 7! Takde orang nak share result ke? Hahaha ... mesti takde 6A. Mak bapak terkejut."

"Takpe tahun ni 1% ajer dpt straight A. SIGS JB pun 3 orang saja. Selama ni tak realistik. Awal, Angah dan Akhir kena seat balik periksa sekolah rendah. Siap2 5B hahaha...."

The three brothers are all straight As students and got themselves places into MRSMs.

One of the mother broke the ice, "Alijah dapat 1A 5B. Congrats Alijah. She and Papa Alijah had done their best."

Papa must be preparing the exam too. Most parents these days ended restudying the school materials and painstakingly involved themselves in the exam preparation.

There was a series of congratulations coming out. Then Lina announced her's, "Lina dapat 2A 3B 1C."

Alijah congratulated her cousin, who did better than her. Lina said, "But I got a C ..." And Alijah said you got 2As.

Another mother announced, "Fizrin 3A 1B 2C .... apa pun tahniah la untuk semua yang ambil UPSR..

One brother commented, "Sayang Fizrin ada C."

We said, "It is OK. C is for comel. And Fizrin got 2 comel.Lagi comel dari Lina."

The only sister in the family commented: "Syukur semua dah dpt result. A ke B ke C ke D ke E ke F ke..bukan ukurannya skrg..yg penting korang baiki apa yg kurang. Life must go on and target to improve your performance all the time dunia dan akhirat."

One brother said, "Selama ni kita buat perception A is good. B is no good. C is bad. Now A excellent, B better, C good. Alijah dok bising nak grading lama grading lama ..... 😅.

In the midst of the conversation, Lina asked of Midah's results.

It went quiet for a while till the Mother informed Midah do not want it to be made known. If she is shy, then we all should give her a break.

Pak Long broke the silence, "Kementeriaan Pendidikan baru buka pejabat hahaha ...." And, Mak Long congratulated all.

Realistic

It was tough year.

The teachers among us were saying to get A this year, the marks has to be above 90. In past years, they speculated it was around 75 as many 70 something students could get As.

One and only brother in JB is a school PTA Chairman.

He said it had always been stressful to teachers and the PTA to meet the unrealistic expectation of kiasu parents. Parents think their children are clever and intelligent thus deserve all sorts of accolades, rewards and prestigious boarding schools admission just cause they attained all As.

Change

We got in touch with a peer age professional teacher for his comment on the parents complain of their children not being straight As.

His first response was UPSR had never been OK. The system had changed from KBSR to KSSR. The KBSR system was implemented in 1986. KSSR started this year so the shock can only be expected.

By right, the MOE should have changed the name from UPSR to other names to avoid the confusion. Mainstream media is still comparing to the old UPSR system

Secondly, he said teachers are delivering based on the old system. They refused to meet the expectation of the NKRA on education.

Since most teachers moonlight as tuition teachers same thing happened at tuition centers.

A message commented:
Furthermore, school teachers maintain the same A grading at 80 when it is now at 90.

Teacher friend blamed part of it to the failure of Muhyiddin's Bestari.net system. It is as slow as snails. If 15 Chrome books are online, system get jammed. It sounded political.

There have been much complain of UPSR over the years on our exam oriented education system. It is putting excessive stress on students. And, it is argued that it does not serve the purpose of education

The Ministry is considering to end UPSR to go for school based assessment. Read Utusan here.

Used to British standardisation and mindset that tough exams is the measure of academic competency, it will take sometime. Read Mkini here.

Many parents will pose the issue of how their children will get into Oxford-Cambridge or Harvard-Yale without a similar O level or A level cert. There is a discussion in Malaysian Digest here.

Dedication

Nevertheless, thumbs up and salutation to all the year 6 teachers. They had dedicated themselves day night morning evening to prepare the students.

One message received described the ordeal of being year 6 teachers:

Education politics

Malaysian being Malaysians, there will be those asshole making that extra effort:

APA SUDAH JADI DGN SISTEM PENDIDIKAN KITA.

Sayangku Cikgu Arry

KBAT? ALAF BARU ? PBS ? PAJSK ? NILAM ? dan macam2 lagi…

UPSR 2014
Calon 460 000

Calon 443 000
Semua A = 38 344
86 %

UPSR 2016
Calon 440,000
Semua A = 4,866
1.1 %
1.1 %  SAHAJA……..

Mengapa?

No way man…. Yg salah ialah GURU….. GURU …. GURU….

Bagitau kat saya university mana yang ambil calon mahasiswa/siswi , mereka nak tengok kad kesihatan or kad sulit 001. Universiti mana yang nak tengok rekod hobi pelajar  baru ambil jadi student… university mana yang nak tengok benda2 ni semua…..

ROTAN PELAJAR TAK BOLEH….. elok bebenar lah tu… nah ambil lah dan terima lah generasi pelajar yang hancur ni untuk memimpin negara masa depan….. 15 pelajar belasah guru….. apa yang boleh buat…buang…lepas sebulan terima semula pelajar tu masuk balik sekolah yang sama….. pelajar selisish dengan guru sambil cakap “apa pandang2 , nak kena belasah lagi ke ?.....

KERETA CIKGU KENA SIMBAH CAT. NAZIR APA JENIS NI????.... cikgu pula hendak diambil tindakan.

Banyak lagilah kes  yang guru berada dihujung tanduk….

Ini semua terjadi mengapa… kerana inilah sistem kita …kita mewarisinya…. KITALAH KENA TEMPUH…

TEPUK DADA TANYALAH SELERA… apakah nasib anak2 kita masa hadapan… kita hanya mampu TENGOK SAHAJA …..

Sekian.
Will that make teachers vote against BN in favour of Muhyiddin's new party?

SBP

SBP was necessary for a more conducive living environment for education

Parents act on their self interest and not based on public interest. Well, below is a notice:
By Monday tomorrow, the Education and KKLW Ministry will be endlessly getting parents trying to use contacts to short circuit their children entry into boarding schools.

And they are mostly KLites.

Please deny them. Time parents take responsibility in raising and educating their children.

Too many pass the buck to government. If their children fail, they will blame the government.

They will refuse to admit their kids are not A material and still complain when they could not get straight As. And they will be resistant to change.

Childish outcry against Maria's SOSMA detention

$

The quarrel between Adam Adli and a regular demonstrator of Bersih shows the yellow side have got the message.

One demonstrator felt they should ramp through the police barricade at Bangsar and march to Dataran Merdeka. Adam Adli understood that the repeat of Bersih 4.0 will justify police to take stern action in accordance to the provision of the law against public disorder and organised violence.

The message from the pre-Bersih 5.0 round-up was crystal that police have low tolerance for non-sensical lawbreakers.

Bersih is prejudicial to public order. Traders lost money and there was no order by DBKL to close shops.

And it is prejudicial to the security of the nation. Critics may say it is to preserve the current regime. From what happen in other colour revolutions, Bersih are using demonstration to instill new regime.

That is what Mahathir admitted:

Seeing how Penang is run, their new regime is cruel and corrupt just like Mahathir's.

DCLeak revelation of documents from George Soros's Open Society Foundation to bring about regime change in the next election was clear proof that there were foreign covert operation to systematically bring about the downfall of a constitutionally elected government.

The government is instituted through a constitutionally inscribed democratic process of election and the Agong empowered to appoint the leader with the biggest support as Prime Minister.

To seek the overthrow of Dato Najib though a demonstration, it is an offense under SOSMA as it is tantamount to "excite the dissatisfaction" against Agong's appointment.

All is provided under SOSMA, the law being dubbed as replacement of ISA but never agreed by all lawyer.

That label is totally wrong. Both are security laws and no government should not do with a security law. The difference is there is legal recourse under Najib's SOSMA than Mahathir favoured ISA.

Under Dato Najib, ISA was repealed but the various security law replacing them are made with legal recourse for the accused.

SOSMA, that is under fire based on political rhetorics, have provision Section 17 that state Evidence Act 1950 is applicable. There will be a court hearing.

In fact, the opposition legal team will be making a habeas corpus application to the court. If they are lucky and have sound basis, it will be accepted by the court and the incident of Matthias Chang and Khairuddin Abu Hasan getting released could occur again.

The first threat terrorist linked detention won their release. So what are these cry babies lawyers sulking about?

One of Matthias and Khairuddin's lawyer, Hanif Khatri is assisting Maria Chin.

So what is the big deal of Maria being detained for 28 days to assist investigation under a legally passed law?

It is only procedural to assist investigation.

The lawyers questioned why detain under SOSMA. Sivarasa claimed she is to be charged under Penal Code 124C but why detained under law meant for suspected terrorists and militants?

That is what a lying lawyer and politician say. SOSMA is not just for anti-terrorism and anti-militancy. The ANC should hear out their Tan Sri Gani Patail defense of SOSMA here.

The first line of the law mentioned "public order and security and connected matter". Anyway, she is as stubborn as any fanatic militant in her attitude and actions to defy the law and police?

Another cry baby lawyer argued that rapist and murderer are detained for 14 days but Maria for 28 days. Well ... national security and foreign interference are bigger threat than rapist and murderer. It relates to sovereignty. The documents are below:

Full document in AIDC News here

Ambiga, Maria and Bar Council admitted receiving from this evil man.

The lawyers may have realised their arguments are crybaby arguments. So they claimed it is intimidation against NGO.

If the NGO did nothing wrong, what is there to be cock a doodle do about? Soon they will be out la ...

They accused the law enforcement police as abusing the law. It is a fancy way of saying the police did it according to the law but they should not have done it on them.

And to give it more drama, Najib is accused of  sliding to dictatorship. Wattaheck! The law is clear that the authority lies with police. What does it got to do with Najib?

Below is a scene under Mahathir administration to quelch demonstrators:

Did you see such a thing under Najib era? In fact, police were harrassed and police patrol car over turned!

And, Mahathir said Najib is cruel and the constitution allows for public demonstration.

Munafiqun!!!

He said he is proud that they are brave. Police should not put up blockade. But did he criticised the law SOSMA?

No because he defended and abused ISA. He will use SOSMA when his stooge gain power.

It shows Bersih 5.0 demonstaters are "clueless puppet". Opposition leaders too are in-denial to the fact Mahathir hijacked Maria Chin's rhetoric for democratic reform to make it about himself and his personal vengence to overthrow Najib.

Giving warning to not derail reform? Is Mahathir ever for reform? Ha ha ha ... what a comedian?

Mahathir couldn't spell out a single reform plan in his Citizens' Declaration. It was more his accusation of Najib "mencuri" from 1MDB but not a single evidence could be presented.

Lawyers also cried abuse of power. But it is already a lost cause the moment Mahathir became the public image of Bersih 5.0. They should just prepare their case to defend Maria instead of cry baby rhetorical calls of oppression or curbing political dissent.

SOSMA is not to curb political belief:

By the way, is Bersih a political party?

Released student leader asked to continue the fight. They could even fight to abolish and repeal SOSMA. They have every right to do so.

If they want to prolong the fight, no sentimental play and mushy mushy stuff to get public  sympathy, please. No sentiment playing argument that SOSMA should not be applied even to Dato Jamal Yunos.

Bersih's ulterior motive is political. Only an anarchic concession from government will ever satisfy them. Their real demand is to hold political power. All these criticisms are pointless and never ending.

It is also not about disallowing dissent. On the contrary, it is about them breaching the law and constitution but saying the law and constitution should not be applicable to them.

As advocated by Dato Nurjazlan, Bersih should just join a political party or form one to enable them to indulge in politcal activities instead of trying to hide behind a registered company.

If they are an NGO, what is their program? T Shirt selling scam?

Is there no limit to Parliamentary Privileges?

$

The drama from the October 24th Parliament appearance by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Dato Seri Shafie Apdal as opposition MPs and Dato Husni Hanadzlah as BN Backbencher continued yesterday.

Taking up on the SOSMA detention of Maria Chin, opposition MPs marched from the parliament gate to the police headquarter with placards which also reads "Defend the MP rights." It refers to Parliamentary Privileges of MPs as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

Subsequent to the trio's speeches, an issue was raised that they may have breached Section 8 of OSA and Section 4 (1) of Sedition Act.

Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia felt the trio abused Parliamentary Privileges. Why they not fight it out when in cabinet?

There was a police report and there was investigation carried. This led to outcry from opposition.

Reactions range from call to stop the investigation, "keluar dewan" gimmick, and questioning how Speaker know the OSA material. There were calls to pursue issue instead of messenger.

On November 8th, Tun Mahathir came to Parliament for more drama with a press conference to claim Parliment is not democratic.

Yes, it is Mahathir that is talking of democrasy and free speech. Dato Shaberry Cheek suggested he look at himself in the mirror.

As for Husni, he gave the impression he is not aware of happening of companies in his portfolio.

It is open secret that he refused to be transferred to other Ministry and had other issues. The claim Husni is champion of the people is doubted

What is Parliamentary Privileges?

In a 2006 article in Sundaily here, Professor Shad Faruqi explained the Immunity and Privileges of MPs. He wrote:
No person shall be liable to any proceedings in any court in respect of anything said or any vote given by him when taking part in any proceedings of either House of Parliament or any committee thereof: Article 63(2).
Furthermore he wrote:
No civil or criminal action can be taken against an MP for defamation, blasphemy, treason or for any violation of the Penal Code, Official Secrets Act or other criminal statutes in relation to his parliamentary words. In fact, any threat to sue or prosecute an MP for his parliamentary words may constitute contempt of the House.

According to Veera Pandian in his column here, privileges lies with the principle of freedom of speech:
The principle of freedom of speech, often described as the most important of all privileges, dates back to the English civil wars during the 1600s when parliamentarians fought for the right to self-governance and independence from the monarchy.

After three wars, the Bill of Rights finally established the powers of parliament and became enshrined in law in 1689.
Article 9 of the Bill of Rights states that “the freedom of speech and debates or proceedings in parliament ought not to be impeached or questioned in any court or place out of Parliament”.
Is the Privileges of Parliament unlimited?

Shad wrote:
Though the privileges of MPs are quite wide, they are not limitless.

1. Ever since the constitutional amendment of 1971, proceedings in Parliament are not exempted from the law of sedition: Article 63(4). In Mark Kodingv PP (1983), an MP was convicted for a parliamentary speech which was seditious in nature.

2. The immunity relates to court proceedings. But abuse by an MP of his privilege of freedom of speech can be punished as a contempt of the House. For example, if an MP misleads the House by supplying false information or does not disclose his interest in the topic on which he is speaking, that may be a ground for punishment for contempt of the House.

Publication of embargoed Bills or papers is likewise a contempt of the House.
He added:
The validity of any proceedings in Parliament shall not be questioned in any court: Article 63(1). This means that once the existence of a privilege is established, courts will not review the exercise, use of abuse of that privilege: Case of the Sheriffs of Middlesex.
Read Shad in full here.

His later writing has acknowledge exceptions to the privileges.

Have the privileges been abused by MPs?

Abuse means it is used in accordance to the law but not applied for the intended purpose.

An article in The Independent of UK in February 2010 pursued this issue at length and cited few cases:
Three Labour MPs, Elliot Morley, David Chaytor, Jim Devine and a Tory peer, Lord Hanningfield, have been charged with false accounting over their expenses claims. They deny the offences and are trying to avoid a criminal trial by invoking the 1689 Bill of Rights which gives force to parliamentary privilege. This is the privilege which stops MPs and peers from being sued for defamation.
The case of a Green MP:
It was the Damian Green MP affair which last brought Parliament into conflict with the law. Mr Green was arrested by the Metropolitan Police at his constituency home on 27 November 2008 on suspicion of "aiding and abetting misconduct in public office" and "conspiring to commit misconduct in a public office".
In Australia in September, ABC reported an MP abused the privilege to name names in a paedophile allegation in Parliament:
Civil libertarians say Derryn Hinch has abused his right to parliamentary privilege by naming paedophiles in his maiden speech to the Senate.

In his speech last night, the controversial new senator used the safe haven to name and shame a number of child sex offenders.

Read on here
In our highly politicised environment, particularly after much relaxation for freedom of speech and media by government, Malaysian politicians rampantly abuse the law to justify their political actions.

Don't say it never happened in Parliament.

Should the privilege be allowed for judicial review?

The Independent summarised the arguments, to the question whether the accused MPs should be allowed to use their privileges, as below:
Yes...
*Parliamentary matters are for parliament to deal with
*Questions about the limits of parliamentary privilege should be heard in public
*A defendant who is unable to fully argue his defence is denied a fair trial. It is up to the court to rule on the admissibility of a possible defence

No...
*It is a long established principle that no one is above the law – including MPs
*By hiding behind parliamentary privilege the parliamentarians are bringing their office into disrepute
*Parliamentary privilege was never intended to help politicians escape the criminal law
Shad wrote:
If the issue is regulated by a Standing Order or Resolution, then the House has exclusive jurisdiction over the matter. However, judicial review will be exercised if a constitutional procedure was not followed or if the Bill was ultra vires the powers of Parliament.

But suppose the allegation is that the counting was mistaken. Can the courts examine the records?

There are also gray areas about the power of the courts to issue habeas corpus if a person is committed to prison for contempt of the House on facts which cannot reasonably be construed as contempt.
Veera wrote:
However, under two conditional clauses (4 & 5) added through amendments made after the May 13, 1969 riots, the privilege does not apply to any person charged with the Sedition Act 1948 and laws enacted under Article 10 (4) which protect the national language, the special position of the Malays and natives of Sabah and Sarawak and commenting on the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay rulers.

As many of our legal experts have since pointed out, there is no mention of the OSA or oaths of secrecy involved.

If the former ministers had violated any rules, they should rightly be referred to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee, chaired by the Speaker himself.
A group of lawyers insisted parliamentary immunity extends to OSA offenses and police have no ground to act.

In The Star, lawyer and columnist, Bhag Singh express the opinion there is exception to the immunity for "cases of sedition, and when they communicate ‘official secrets’ outside Parliament". He wrote:
In deciding that there was no privilege granted to such a person (Lim Kit Siang v. Public Prosecutor case) to communicate such information outside Parliament, then Chief Justice Raja Azlan Shah went on to say: “Parliamentary privileges may exempt the appellant from the laws of defamation, so long as the libellous words were uttered within the walls of Parliament, but as he well knows, will not save a member from an action for damages if repeated outside the House.

“We do not consider, since it does not arise for consideration and we do not have the benefit of submissions whether any speech in Parliament revealing official secrets would be caught by the Act, but clearly the duty of the appellant as a Parliamentarian does not include the right to disclose or make available for disclosure official secret information outside the walls of the House to the public at large whatever his motive might be.”
In a Nutgraph article in 2011, with regard to Dato Mukhriz wanting to reveal the IPP Agreement with government, he was cautioned by Tony Pua of OSA.

It shows they are aware that OSA documents cannot be disclosed in Parliament and the trio intend to test the law to the hilt.

If so, allow police and AG to pursue and test the case.

If unsuccessful, then Parliament should do a review to clarify loose ends. There was a paper presented to British Parliament to review Parliamentary Privileges. [The pdf files here.] Are we to pursue the same reform?

As for the affected MPs, same advise as yesterday. They should stop being crybabies and drama kings and queens, but go through due process and prepare their case.

Heaven sake, stop using idiots and immature adult to defend them.

Act 355: Political deft touch

Private member's bill to amend Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdication) Act 1965 (Act 355) was submitted by MP for Marang and President of PAS, Dato Seri Haji Hadi Awang on May 26th, 2016.

It was due for tabling in Parliament for yesterday, Thursday November 24th but postphoned for changes.

The motion to the amendment by Hadi is to empower the state legislative to impose penalities allowed under syariah law except the death penality. This was interpreted by non-Muslims and liberal NGOs as making way for Hudud and Qisas. Social media made a propaganda to called it a hudud bill.

Islamic institutions disagreed and denied it is so and to open the way for Kelantan to commence Hudud law. Deputy Minister in the PM’s Department, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki explained in The Star in Jun 2016 here.

NST has an article written by former Lord President, Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamed to discussed the legal implication:  Amendment of Act 355: The real effect.

Politics

Under Tun Dr Mahathir administration, Act 355 was amended in 1988 without much opposition from within and without BN. This time around it became controversial for political and social reasons.

Noticeably, Mahathir is now silent as he tries to court PAS. He has been more open with his liberal stance on Islam to reach out to Marina's friends among liberal NGOs and G25 for political support.

A glimpse of Mahathir's Islam Luberal tendency lies in his past argument to question the many interpretations of Islamic practises and blaming ulamak as authority and interpretor of Islam for the divisiveness. Something similar with the weird and feisty lawyer Siti Kassim.

The leeway given to public dissent during Tun Abdullah administration openned up Islamic institutions and traditional practises to criticism. Non-Muslims NGOs seek for their rights to proselytise Muslims. Liberal Muslims demand more liberal legal and theological interpretation, including Muslims' right to convert out of Islam.

The private bill by Hadi was seen as PAS pursuing Hudud after getting UMNO state assemblymen support for their Hudud bill at the Kelantan State Assembly in 2015.

During the life of the late PAS's Mursyidul Am, Allahyarham Dato Nik Aziz Nik Mat, Hudud had become a crying call of PAS to gain political support. It had always been used as political weapon against the more traditional Malay UMNO and anglophile leaning of it's ruling elites.

The UMNO reply was to question PAS for not implementing Hudud after getting it passed in the Kelantan state assembly in 1984 and claimed Hudud is merely a political weapon.

PAS political test?

Politically, private bill could be PAS testing UMNO's commitment for Hudud. Several amendments to the Federal Constitutions need to be done before Kelantan can implement Hudud. So sterner penalities and sentences for syariah criminal offenses could be test.

BN component parties opposed the PAS's Hudud Bill at the Kelantan State Assembly in 2015 and Hadi's private bill.

As far as RUU 355, BN's fixed deposit in Sabah and Sarawak, including Sabah UMNO is clearly opposing it. So do MCA, MIC, Gerakan and many others.

DAP opposed anything to do with Islam. Since independence, they are against the social contract. However, some political observer see the quarrel against each other between PAS and DAP as necessary to maintain support from their own supporters.

PKR and Amanah is against it but it is a bit more complex. Wan Azizah is clearly against it but Azmin need to maintain his relationship with PAS Selangor to remain as MB.

As former PAS member that supported Hudud, Amanah camouflaged their opposition by proposing something they claim as better and intentionally made their motion in Parliament be rejected by the Speaker.

PPBM is not clear as the Chairman and President are playing Good Cop Bad Cop.

Mahathir wants to join Pakatan Harapan and agree with the condition set, but Tan Sri Muhyiddin suddenly has second thoughts. Most likely, Mahathir is against RUU 355 but UMNO-totok Muhyiddin could be for RUU 355 to win PAS heart.

PAS leaders mentioned any coalition partner should support RUU 355. PPBM is in a damn if I do and damn if I don't situation. They need partners and realised only way to dethrone Najib is with a one on one fught.

It will get difficult with Dato Ibrahim Ali announcement that Perkasa is not pro-Najib but putting independent candidates against PAS and PH candidates in Malay areas.

There is an interesting exchange of words between Mahathir and Ibrahim. Will it prolong?

Deft touch?

UMNO Information Chief hinted to some form of coalition with PAS. The mention of cooperation between UMNO and PAS have been repeatedly mentioned by both sides of this Malay political divide.

Recently PAS leader denied any coalition with UMNO. PPBM is hoping to seize on that opportunity and trying hard to make public believe they are almost there.

But PAS is also clear to not be in coalition with any group cooperating with DAP.

Interesting time buying game by PAS as they are more behave without the Erdogan in winning the hearts and minds of Malay rural voters.

Every other political parties are in a dilemma, directly or indirectly, with PAS's private bill but none more than UMNO.

On Wednesday night, before Hadi tabling of the bill on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and BN Chief Whip, Dato Zahid Hamidi requested all Muslim MPs for a briefing on the Act 355.

It was heated but at the end, it was reported as calm and claimed to have got a consensual understanding that it is not meant for hudud and only for syariah court law.

It was deft touch of diplomacy by Zahid. Though attempted as to spin as short relief, Kelana Jaya MP, Wong Chen complimented Zahid's ability to diffuse the situation. Diplomacy is always a good policy than quarrelsome and lying loud mouth.

Hadi announced to Parliament that he will change the proposed amendment and table it for the next Parliamentary seating. It is believed to limit certain penalties to dispel any misunderstanding that it will lead towards Hudud.

Unless PAS still want to be politically naughty, it should be a possible solution for a happy ending.

Tan Sri Adenan Satem acknowledged that RUU 355 is not Hudud but maintain their stance to oppose. Take cognizance that Sarawak is not a majority Islamic state and PBB is a mixed party of Muslim and non-Muslim Pribumi. Federal government respected Sarawak's position.

Not a bodoh ending there.

Wong Chen may be right to say it will always be volatile. MCA is insistent to oppose RUU 355. If DAP is adamant to oppose, MCA have no choice but to oppose. PAS had warned DAP to not interfere in Islamic matter and it should be meant for MCA too.

Not all UMNO Semenanjong MP agree. For one, Dato Nazri Aziz initially disagree with RUU 355. His latest stance is to give PAS a chance.

President Dato Liow had offer to resign as Minister if the RUU is passed. He has to maintain that position or be called weak. Though explained by Ashraf, Liow used as caveat to argue it is government that should propose the bill and not PAS.

Government may do so. Hadi said he will change the amendment in consultation with "Kerajaan Pusat".

It looks UMNO and PAS were able to negotiate around the politics and inter-faith strife the liberals and their foreign covert op handlers are waiting to happen for Malaysia. [Read Maszlee Malik here.] How long before another IFC or Islamist demand or MCCHBS controversial statement?

If only it was communicated well by Zahid's team.

Personal view

As far as our personal view on this episode, entahlah ....

To say we are liberal on matter of religion, particularly Islam, we are not and we oppose to the deviant Islam Liberal thinking of Sister in Islam, Marina Mahathir and her coterie of friends.

But to say we are for Islamic state and the institutionalising of Islam, we are not exactly so. We dare not say we oppose the teaching of Islam and words of Quran. However, it is often wrongly interpreted literally.

Too often the more important aspect of individual spirituality is lost in the formality and bureucrasy of Islamic administration. It is not fair and justice to have laws applied differently for Muslims and Non-Muslims. Frankly, it is of no consequence to us because we do not commit those syariah offenses.

There are scholars, those tend to be literalist, claimed Islamic state or Islamic banking or almost anything claimed as Islamic are not mentioned in Quran. However, we do need to elevate Islam to be progressive and in tune with the time.

What is in abundant in Quran is Allah telling Muslims to be individually good, conduct oneself with proper behaviour and manner, and be moral and ethical in our personal affairs. All these are manifestation of internal spirituality. It is relevant till the end of time.

Often a time, Malays tend to think that anything Arabic as Islamic. Upon their return from Haj, they wear kopiah and jubah to display their heightened spirituality. Islam is not about being Arabic.

By right, we should be calling Islamic banking as free riba or interest free banking. Save us the convoluted terms like Murabahah, Murakahah and Musyarakah. What is so Islamically ethical and pure to have Jho Loh and Goldman Sach structure a Sukuk bond?

We are against over Islamisation in schools. What constitute "over Islamisation" have to be defined but it is ridiculous to see the public walls of national school meant for all race and religion filled with quotations from Quran and Hadith. National school is not a Maahad or Tahfiz or sekolah pondok.

It makes no sense for MRSM to impose on students to complete reading of the whole Quran or khatam Quran to get their school leave certificate. MRSM is an affirmative action to uplift poor Bumiputera students competency in Science and Maths. Spiritual education is important but why make it compulsory to khatam the Quran?

Three things we should not politicise - religion, race and education, say Tan Sri Rafidah.

Castro died ... short of 91

Fidel Castro, the bearded rebels who led a victorious communist revolution in Cuba, an island off the US southern Florida in 1959, died at the age of 90 at 10:29 PM Friday Cuban time.

Castro governed Cuba as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976 and then as President from 1976 to 2008 to defy and survived 10 US presidents.[Read AP report here]

The announcement was made by his 88 year old brother, President Raul Castro on state television. Raul ended the announcement by shouting the revolutionary slogan: “Toward victory, always!”

CNN feature report described his death:
"Fidel Castro's death is the end of an era. He has gone not with a bang, as he arrived, nor with a whimper, but a simple fading away. Laid low by serious illness, his iron grip on the island nation had loosened over the past decade, with full power passing to his brother Raul in 2008.

"Castro's communist impulses were imprisoned by his increasing infirmity. In his failing years, he witnessed much of what he stood for slip away. Diplomatic relations with the US -- that 50 years ago had the world on the brink of nuclear war -- are on the mend. Whether he backed his brother in this detente is unclear; what is clear is that a quarter of a century after the collapse of their principal sponsor -- the Soviet Union -- neither of the brothers could stand in the way of their people's wishes any longer."

There is more US media propaganda. With Fidel gone, NY Times posed the question: With one Castro gone, questions about what will the other Castro do?

88-year old Raul Castro negotiated a 50 year diplomatic stand-off with US. Today, Cubans can communicate on-line with their cousins in Florida.

He has a hold on power, secured military trust and slowly brought in private enterprise.

Tourism was revived with 3.5 millions arrival last year and it was a mainstay of the economy before the revolution. It was Fidel's initiative but Cubans complained of food and other resources diverted to the sector.

Raul grumbled on the bloated state bureacrasy, and corruption and said there is need to cut public workforce.

Will Raul dismantle the ailing state run economy of Cuba?

Reform and change after the end of any era of strong leaders like Fidel come with political cost. It could dismantle the grip on the power structure and lead to regime change.

Washington Post reported: "there were no signs of unrest but, perhaps just as tellingly, not much spontaneous mourning either. Cubans went on with their lives in a world that is very much Castro’s creation".

"The socialist system affords Cubans access to health care, education and food rations but has failed for decades to provide them with more than the essentials. And the country’s economic outlook appears to be going from bad to worse."

Raul is expected to pick on reform with the brother gone. The younger Castro had quipped, “We have two parties here, just like in the United States. Fidel’s and mine.”

Fidel’s is the Communist one, Raúl added, “and you can call mine whatever you want.”

Al Jazeera reported University of Miami professor Jaime Suchlicki saying, "My analysis says no - he's not a market economist, he doesn't believe in capitalism, so he's not going to open up Cuba to the market."

Suchlicki added Cuba is run by the millitary and communist party. He said, "It doesn't make any difference if it's Joe, Pepito, or Louis in the presidency - the institutions of Cuba are the ones that are controlling Cuba."

Richard Feinberg of the University of California, San Diego believed that in the short run, "political continuity rather than rupture is the more probable course".

Cuba is at a crossroad. To quote from Al Jazeera:
But there is much more the country must do in the years ahead to help heal its ailing economy, noted John Kirk, an expert in Cuban history and international relations at Dalhousie University in Canada.

"Cuba is at the crossroads of potentially very significant change," Kirk told Al Jazeera.

"The primary economic challenge is how to turn an oil tanker around in a very short time - it takes a lot of time to do it, and Cuba doesn't have that much time."

Foreign trade with Cuba has suffered because the country is considered a bad risk, unable to pay its debts, Suchlicki said, noting Cuba should focus on developing more products for export.

With ample farmland, the country could become a major agricultural export hub, he said, but that would require large-scale farming as opposed to the smaller enterprise permitted by Raul's reforms. One minor step came this year, when a US company was cleared to build tractors in the country.

Currently, one of Cuba's top exports is medical personnel; the country rakes in billions of dollars annually by shipping its doctors across borders.
Resistance to change

In many aspect, Cuba is at a similar crossroad with Malaysia in 2003.

There is much to be done and reform or transformation needed, but it is held back by a past leader insistent to maintain his legacy, dynasty, and crony.

The economic and political conditions may not be the same. Another difference is one has left and the other still around. Where Fidel was 90 last August, he was 91 last July.

Fidel was too sick to interfere but the Malaysian former leader is pursuing to topple any successor carrying out reform plans not in tune with his legacy.

Malaysians wanted the reform or transformation but significant segment are too selfish or unwilling to appreciate the need to swallow the bitter medicine that come with change.

There are segment of Malaysians willing to follow the former leader blindly and forgot the reform they once seek. His supporters failed to realised he is willing to destroy his biggest legacy and that is the party that put him into power and the platform to implement his ideas for 22 years.

If successful, hs supporters will place the opposition they do not favour and do not believe in to be in power. Out of blind trust, in-denial of his past misdeeds and his refusal for change, they willingly support the former leader.

The former leader no longer wield any fear factor. and his former enemy turned allies maybe beginning to turn their back against him. He is merely repeating past habit of toppling existing leaders with no intention to embrace the opposition's vision and aspiration.

This time around, he has no plan and no credible successor to be put in as replacement. His proposed replacement is neither acceptable to the ruling party nor his opposition partners.

And, he lied on his true intention to topple the existing leader. It is purely personal vendetta and personal greed that is driving his delusional quest for power. Any success to topple the current leadership will not revert the country to the direction he wanted it in the first place. A lost-lost situation.

Cuba have the chance to move forward.

Shafie building up his political script

$

On November 11, Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Vice President and former DAP MP, Junz Wong announced 3,000 UMNO Sepangar members switched over to join.

Warisan got their registration in October so such a stunt to give a sense of confidence was only expected. However, it could deceive non-players and Semenanjung observers. It is a bit too many to those in the know of the Sepangar ground.

Sources on the ground laughed it off. There were no more than 10 to 15 applications from Sepangar. It is an area outside the domain of Shafie's Bajau Laut or more precisely, Suluk for him to gain such large number of crossover.

It is an open secret that Shafie have to pull stunt like lucky draw with car as prize to get large crowd. He still has lots more to do than trying to "buy-in" leaders to join him.

It was rumoured, and it would not be a surprise that it was Shafie that created the rumour, if not for MACC raid on Sabah Water, 18 state assemblymen would have been "bought" over.

Those in the know of Sabah UMNO politics claimed at best, he could only gain 8 former Division leaders left to the wayside due to gambling problems.

He needs a convincing story to tell and is in  the midst of building his script or in more sophisticated parlance, political narrative. One can expect him to pick on his old nemesis, Sabah CM Dato Musa Aman.

Late in the game

Before he could do any credible attack, he need to remove the link with the Sabah Water Department corruption case. He dismissed his involvement in his address in Parliament and again he tried to redirect the issue to the CM.

However, to a question by former Deputy Minister, Dato Lajim Ukin in the Sabah State Assembly on November 22nd last week, the Assistant Minister of Finance of Sabah told the house that the water program under investigation is Program Bekalan Air Luar Bandar (BALB) under KKLW. [Read Capt M here].

On an equally bigger matter, Shafie tried to bring back the now in fashion Sabah for Sabahan theme. But it was shrugged off by PBS Deputy President Maximus Ongkili as being copy cat of their 35 years agenda.

Pairin has announced to not run in the next General Election and Maximus is a likely successor as PBS President. Maximus said the theme has shifted to Sabah for Malaysian. He meant to emphasise that there is no more an issue of Sabah leaving Malaysia.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Dato Najib has given commitment to review and abide by the Malaysia agreement 1963.

Shafie can be seen as losing that plot as he announced the slogan for Warisan as "Ubah Sabah" which is more in tune with Mahathir's determined attempt to ouster Najib at all cost including his reputation and credibility

Shafie realised that MA63 is one of two of Mahathir's handicap in Sabah. They other handicap he share with is Projek IC to illegally gave away citizenship to illegal immigrant.

Maybe that is the issue he tries to cover to claim over weekend in Melaka that 700,000 immigrant from China wiill be given citizenship to vote for BN for next GE. A lie similar to anwar's 40,000 Bangla Desh.

MA63

Mahathir's main men in Sabah tried to dispel the notion that he had infringed on the MA63. Tan Sri Harris Salleh, the Mahathir appointed former Chief Minister that turn a blind eye to the Projek IC going-ons was reported by FMT:

Harris queries validity of M’sia Agreement 1963
FMT Reporters | November 25, 2016

The former chief minister says there are several questions that need to be answered on MA63.

KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah chief minister Harris Salleh believes that beyond Article 1(2) in the Federal Constitution, several questions remain to be answered on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

For starters, he said in a statement carried by the Daily Express, there was the question of the legal validity of MA63.

He agreed with Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman that MA63 and the constitutional documents on Malaysia had been incorporated in the Federal Constitution.

“Those relying on MA63 should determine its position, in relation to the power of the federal government, besides its validity,” said Harris.

According to Harris, these are the questions that arise:

Does it mean that all laws passed by the Malaysian Parliament must comply with MA63?

If any law does not, is it illegal?

Is MA63 more supreme than the Malaysian Parliament?

If so, does it mean the Malaysian Parliament is subordinate to MA63?

“Reverting to the 1963 Constitution is like using a bandage to cover a huge crack,” he said. “Reverting to the 1963 Constitution is unnecessary.”

The amendment was passed by Parliament in 1976, he reminded, and there was representation by all states.

He also agreed with the Sabah chief minister that there was “no substantive change” in the status of Sabah and Sarawak under the 1976 amendment.

He suggested that those pushing for a return to the 1963 Constitution should state what rights had been taken away by the federal government from the Borneo states.

He also urged them to consider pushing for acceptable arrangements in power sharing, social order, finance/revenue and natural resources.

“Just going back to the 1963 Constitution vide the pre-1976 Article 1(2) will not work,” cautioned Harris.

He called for comprehensive and thorough consideration on the respective functions, roles, and responsibilities of each component in the federation, including rights to finance and natural resources.

The bottom line, according to Harris, is that 1976 has passed and 1963 was even more distant in the past. Since then, Malaysia had changed and “there’s a whole new world out there”.

In a little digression, the former chief minister blamed “negative” policies for the “plight” of the people in Borneo.

“Sabah and Sarawak are backward because of the indifference of the federal government,” said Harris. “The delivery systems are poor and federal officials are indifferent as well.”

Though Sabah leaders have not responded, probably out respect to an elderly leader, his comment attracted rebuttal from Sarawak:

Activists want former Sabah CM to take MA63 to court

Joe Fernandez | November 28, 2016

The Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) continues its separate existence even if incorporated in the federal constitution, as it is an international agreement.

KOTA KINABALU: Borneo rights activists in Sabah and Sarawak want former Sabah chief minister Harris Salleh to seek a Declaration in the Federal Court on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Harris is not the court. Only the court can declare on MA63,” Daniel John Jambun said, speaking on behalf of rights activists in Borneo.

He added that the law is not just about the letter but the spirit too.

“That’s Rule of Law, that’s democracy. Rule by Law is not law at all but dictatorship.”

Peter John Jaban, who echoed Jambun, cautioned Harris against continuing to issue “errorneous” statements in the media on MA63.

They were commenting on a statement by Harris reported in the Sabah newspaper, Daily Express, last week, in which Harris had agreed with Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman that MA63, and other constitutional documents on Malaysia, have been incorporated in the Federal Constitution of Malaya (now Malaysia).

“It does not mean that MA63 was no longer valid. That is because MA63 is an international agreement and treaty signed by five governments,” Jaban said.

It has also been lodged with the UN secretary-general as a Trust Deed, he added.

Jambun said if Harris actually meant that MA63 was no longer valid, after being incorporated in the federal constitution, “that’s not the position in law”.

As a comparison, Jaban gave the example of the Magna Carta, or the Grand Charter, which was not only part of the uncodified/unwritten British Constitution but continues its separate existence.

“This is irrespective of whether it had been incorporated or otherwise in the British Constitution,” Jaban said.

Jambun argued that the federal constitution was only part of the story.

“MA63 called for a Malaysian constitution. However, the federal constitution was the Malayan Constitution,” he said.

Both men then agreed that the Malaysian constitution is an uncodified/unwritten one.

They also believe that the federal constitution was only one of the constitutional documents making up the Malaysian constitution.

“The others are the constitutional documents on Malaysia. This ensures compliance on the Malaysia concept,” Jambun said

The constitution, as the ultimate political document, has the force of law and hence emerges as the supreme law of the land.

“It’s the constitution that’s supreme, not parliament,” Jaban said.

According to Jambun, Harris was wrong in carrying on as if the Malaysian parliament was supreme over the constitution.

“That is because the sovereignty of parliament is confined to its five-year term.”

He said the bottomline is that the sovereignty of parliament cannot be bound by a previous parliament, nor can it bind a future parliament.

“It’s the Constitution that decides,” Jambun said.

Jaban said it was up to the Federal Court – sitting as the Constitutional Court – to interpret the intention of the framers of the constitution.

The Federal Court can also interpret the intention of parliament and the intention of the founding fathers in Borneo on Malaysia.
Musa Aman has similar view with Harris but has since, succumbed to pressure from within UMNO Sabah and without.

At the Sabah state assembly recently, he said BN can work with opposition to fight for Sabah right as he dispel the interpretation of Article 1(2) of the Malaysian Constitution on the status of Sabah as a state in Malaysia was not in concurrent with MA63.

Sabah UMNO and opposition have had conferences and conventions on Sabah rights for several sessions. Shafie and his people did not participate.

The last supposed 5-yearly review on the implementation of MA63 was done during Tun Abdul Razak lifetime after the May 13, 1969 incident. The subsequent one was held but stopped midway due to his death.

It was ignored by subsequent Prime Ministers but Pak Lah did concede to allow the state to manage to Federal allocation and gave additional allocation. It is only Najib that is re-looking the MA63 matter including allowing the RCI on Projek IC.

Mahathir had a torrid political history with Sabah.

Sly Shafie

The way it is with Shafie is to revive his old lie to accuse Musa for a corruption casee which he was exonerated by MACC and Hong Kong's ICAC. Shafie slandered Musa as receiving money from Shafie's own man,  Michael Chia and paid PKR AMK Sabah to instigate and viral the issue.

Now, Shafie has his version of agitator like Chegubard to do his bidding, paid bidding for sure:

Lawan tatap lawan sampai tumbang!

The SMS has not caught on.

There was a police report on Jufazli and he is likely to face charges under cyberlaw. Jufazli had to put up a bold face and was reported ready to face the court as he intend to use the court to expose more corruptions.

Jufazli is clearly Shafie proxy when he made a call for change in Sabah. Shafie is using Jufazli to accuse Musa of receiving kickback from Water Department projects to divert allegation against him. Only money can salvage Shafie's politics. His corrupt reputation among the people of the interior is overwhelming.

The game is clear. It is not about being legally right or wrong. Shafie is expected to viral the court proceeding of Jufazli allegation in court made against Musa. If court stopped any attempt to raise irrelevent issue, get ready for the wayang!

Before Shafie could do that, the Water Department corruption case will gets it day in court and the RCI finding on illegal immigrant IC will be out first. It will confirm open secrets known for decades in Sabah.

Loyalty to counter betrayal from within

The common message for yesterday's UMNO wings assembly was clear. General election is coming and present General Assembly could be the last before the general election. It would narrow the possible election to within a year.

However, there were other subtle messages being delivered by the various wing. None more prominent than the message to and from Khairy Jamaluddin. It would mean Khairy and Pemuda UMNO will have a prominent role to play in the times to come. It is time for them to step up to the plate.

Much attention was given in various speeches to the betrayal by Tun Dr Mahathir against the party he led for 22 years.

It was Dato Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Khairy that carried the louder critics toward Tun Dr Mahathir. Zahid criticised Mahathir and "Boboi" for being in-cohoot with Soros. One should not forget that at one time, Mahathir openly seek for foreign intervention. While, Khairy reminded Pemuda not to forget Mahathir's betrayal.

Betrayal and loyalty stand out as the main theme in Najib's opening address at the UMNO general Assembly for 2016.

While he refused to be more forceful and less gentleman in handling Mahathir, he also emphasised, "We must be above them and not to be at their level."

The Mahathir side have no new development on 1MDB issue and seem to recycle the DOJ filing to the California court. The last dateline given by DOJ to Red Granite to file defense was on October 28th. They have not made any comment on this missing development except JMD recycling like a broken record. Is something wrong with the filing?

It is noticeable that PPBM have stopped talking at large about 1MDB. For Mahathir to accuse others of corruption and embezzlement, the simple counter argument is Mahathir, Sons & Cronies are worse.

Their new approach is to do an economic fear factor campaign to capitalise on the budget cut, subsidy rationalisation, GST, rising prices, ringgit decline and global economic slowdown. It include lies, and fabrication of facts.

One absurd claim by PPBM was touched by Najib in his opening address by highlighting the latest quarterly of 4.3% growth. This compares with about 4% shrinkage of the Singapore's economy and a different tone from Singapore towards Malaysia.

Najib succeed where Mahathir failed!

In his interview on TV3, Najib highlight that the IMF Chief Executive, Christine Lagarde made no mention of Malaysia is in a crisis in a recent encounter at an international meet. Despite the challenges and weakening ringgit vis-a-vis the US dollar, Malaysia's economic condition is steady.

Economic rating was not done by opposition swiped Najib on the opposition for claiming Malaysia is on the brink of bankruptcy.

Najib express frustration with the false allegations made by Mahathir and DAP-led opposition with support from foreign power namely George Soros.

He reminded UMNO members to remain supportive and maintain loyalty to the party and it's leadership as it is essential in facing up to the challenges of betrayals towards the party.

It was loyalty given to the UMNO President that enable the party to face up to past challenges, especially split in the party. Mentioned were the various episodes in UMNO history beginning with team A vs Team B fight, UMNO being declared unlawful in 1988, membership drive for UMNO Baru and currency crisis in 1997/98.

Through it all, he highlighted that he and UMNO members had stick with the party president.

The present episode is the saddest as Mahathir had turned around on all his words and position to collaborate with the political enemies of UMNO, primarily DAP, Bersih, PKR and foreigners, particularly George Soros. It is the ultimate betrayal.

Najib gave much time to explain on the need for wala or loyalty in facing diversity. It is a similar concept much practised in PAS. Read UMNO Online here.

He reminded UMNO members and Malays on the danger in the complacency to allow DAP-led opposition hands on power. He highlighted the various institutions established to protect and preserve the rights, position and interest of the Bumiputera and Muslim.

When DAP comes to power, all will cease to exist.

The message was powerful that it was immediately brushed off by Soros-funded Malaysiakini by accusing Najib of spooking anti-Islam anti Malay sentiment. Judging from happenings in Penang, Selangor, briefly in Perak and issues raised by DAP politicians, it is the inevitable reality.

The principle behind wala’ was explained to include the values of love, obey, loyalty, and pledge for loyalty to the legitimate leader as an institution. In the context of UMNO, it is the President and in government, the Prime Minister.

Wala' will be the binding agent to unite the party in facing the election for UMNO this time around.

Najib reminded members that UMNO was formed in 1946 at a time the Malays were disunited, lacking leadership and spread over small settlement, villages, and small towns without any group championing their plight.

Since 1946, UMNO has done much for Malay and Nation without any party being left aside. In English, he said, "...indeed UMNO has fulfilled far more than its duty for its members, and has gone beyond in justifying its purpose to the rakyat and the country, and no one will be left behind..."

The UMNO General Assembly had always been the platform to debate and pass motion for the Malay and nation betterment.

The bigger cause has to take priority over the greed and power craze of certain leaders and frustration and revenge from lost of power of others. UMNO members must move forward to ignore the disloyal lots and persevere for the sake of agama, bangsa dan tanahair.

This time around UMNO's task to undertake reform or known as National Transformation is more difficult and challenging that it could be the source of current politcal resistance within conventional thinking UMNO members and leaders.

The new buzzword is TN50. It is the way forward that young Malaysians should not be asking Government what it is all about and where the direction the Government intend to take the country. But for each one of them to answer it themselves.

It is the country they will be inheriting in a short number of years.

Time for the older generation to move aside and acknowledge the social change that happenned under their very eyes unnoticed by many of them. It is a world the old school thinking leaders will find it alien.

Najib's speech in full:

1. MUKADIMAH

Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillahi Rabbil A’lamin wa biHi nastain.

1.     Dimulai kalam, dengan mengangkat setinggi-tinggi pujian bahawa, Dialah Tuhan Yang Maha Kaya, Dialah Tuhan Yang Maha Berkuasa dan Dialah Tuhan Yang Paling Tahu segalanya.

Allahumma Solli Ala Saidina Muhammad, Wa a’la A-li Saidina Muhammad.

14.     Tambahan lagi, sifat-sifat mulia orang-orang Melayu, seperti disesuaikan daripada madah Sasterawan Negara Usman Awang dan Sasterawan Melayu-Riau Tenas Affendy.
Melayu itu orang yang bijaksana,
Budi bahasanya tidak terkira,
Kurang ajarnya masih beralas dan bersantun,

Kalau berkelahi biarlah cara Melayu,

Kalau menikam pula, pun dengan berpantun,
Walau menyanggah dikuntum senyum.
Kalau merayu dan meminta,
Hendaklah pada yang kasih dan sudi memberi.

Mencontoh biarlah pada yang senonoh,
Berteladan pada yang sepadan.

Adil menjadi hakim,
Amanah dalam bersumpah,
Sekalipun begitu, walau watak Melayu menolak permusuhan, setia dan sabar tiada sempadan, biar berkecai tulang, hatta hancurnya badan,

PANTANG PENDEKAR, MENINGGALKAN GELANGGANG!!!

4. UMNO: PARTI DAN PIMPINAN BERJIWA BESAR

Saudara dan Saudari,

16.     Pucuk pangkalnya, bak kata orang putih, we must be above them and not to bring ourselves down to their level.

Siapa lagi, Siapa lagi, kalau bukan kita, orang-orang UMNO!

...indeed UMNO has fulfilled far more than its duty for its members, and has gone beyond in justifying its purpose to the rakyat and the country, and no one will be left behind...

70.     Sesungguhnya, atas sumpah janji tragedi di Lahad Datu, biar berpisah nyawa dari badan, namun seinci pun bumi Sabah, takkan sesekali kita gadaikan.

71.     Selain itu, saudara dan saudari, saya turut berbangga dengan catatan keahlian baru paling ramai mengikut bahagian, yakni dari UMNO Bahagian Kuala Nerus, Terengganu Darul Imaniaitu seramai 2,876 ahli.

Tepukan hebat kepada UMNO Bahagian Kuala Nerus!

72.    Manakala, bagi kategori negeri pula, keahlian baru tertinggi dicatat oleh Terengganu Darul Iman, iaitu sejumlah 9,787 ahli setakat Oktober 2016. Bak kata orang Terengganu,

Mane’ oghang Ghanu kite? Sile’ beghi tepukang, beghi tepukang kepada Menteri Besar YAB Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman dan UMNO Negeri Terengganu.

83.     Kisah tauladan yang saya maksudkan, adalah tentang Puan Saridah binti Ibrahim, Nombor Ahli UMNO 01441342, Ketua Wanita Cawangan Bandar Baru Selayang, juga merangkap Ketua Penerangan Wanita Bahagian Selayang.

86.     Saudara dan saudari, saya perlihatkan, Puan Saridah.

87.      Inilah dia contoh sejati Semangat Pendekar Tun Fatimah, wirawati kegemilangan Melayu Melaka yang patut dinyala-nyalakan dalam sanubari semua, bukan sekadar Wanita, bahkan seluruh ahli UMNO.

154.     Bak kata orang dulu-dulu,
Air dalam bertambah dalam,
Hujan dahulu belum teduh,
Hati dendam jangan didendam,
Dendam yang dulu mesti disembuh.

168.     Makanya, akhirul kalam, saya selaku Presiden menyeru kepada kalian semua,
Jangan kita mundur walau setapak,
Jangan kita berpatah jalan walau sejengkal,

Hidup UMNO!
Hidup Barisan!
Hidup Malaysia

Bold call from a Johor delegate

Dato Ayob Rahmat, delegate from Johor and state assemlyman of Kemelah

The views from the UMNO state representatives debating the President speech on Thursday morning was coming out rather predictable and stale. With the sound of the beating election drum, bodeking was rampant from aspiring candidates.

As one DG of a government agency commented privately, it was too much rhetorical, lacked specifics, and insufficient information backing. At the rate they were talking, it will end up Najib Razak himself to do the thinking, planning  and implementation. "Mati berdiri la ..."

Our complain was the information or analysis presented are laggard. With news, information and analysis accessible to the masses in minutes upon occurence, much of the issues raised have been heard before and it sounded boring-ly repetitive.

One could hear same old same old views remnants of Mahathir's NEP tongkat days like demands for GLC CEO position to be kept for Malays, special allocation for Malays, and various other demands remnants of dependent mentality of Mahathir's era.

It was a failure that Mahathir himself admitted. However, it was by his own design and the  Machivellian was merely putting up an act of rregret. The tongkat was necessary tool for his own political survival and continuity.

A retired media wanted to see the pembawa usul humanise the fact presented to enable the lowest to the highest common denominator among the audience could relate. It was something Mahathir was good at in his days.

From noon to late evening, we were spending more time catching up with political, media and activist friends. Missed was the much talked about speeches by one Sabah and Johor delegate.

Rhyming with the theme set from the President speech for party unity through wala' or loyalty to the leadership was the need to cleanse the party of those rebels and those in contradiction with the party.

The President merely said to not waste time and to move forward but it was given specific by few delegates. [Read NST here].

Though quite the usual thinking within UMNO, the speech from Sabah delegate has it's significance because it was expressed by Semporna UMNO Treasurer and cousin to Dato Shafie Apdal, Datuk Razak Tun Sakaran. It is rumored that one of the Sakaran children will take on Shafie.

Razak said, “I feel, if there are any members who don’t agree (with the leadership), get out (of the party) like a gentleman.”

Harsh as it may be, it is relevant reminder to PPBM members and pentaksub Mahathir followers. They are now with the opposition party thus stop commenting about UMNO should be this and that, Najib is this and that.

Was Razak speech the one many delegates rated as the best speech yesterday?

Stark reality

However, the voice that may have stand out yesterday and gotten wide agreement overnight in the few Whass App groups we are still part of must be the Johorean delegate speech.

Off late, we have been removing ourselves out of groups with large number of members. It has become unproductive and intellectually challenging to comprehend.

In what seemed opposite to Dato Najib's reminder to Malays that the many institution established for them could cease should DAP take leadership of the country, Dato Ayub Rahmat, state assemblyman for Kemelah in Segamat, reminded to UMNO to stop asking Malays for loyalty but look at it the other way.

It seemed those in the upper echelon of the party was annoyed. Most likely, it is not the leaders who are usually open to criticism, but the people around them. There is likelihood it ran contrary to the message the assembly was meant for.

An extract from The Star report summed it well
“Umno came into existence because of the Malays. Umno owes its success to the Malays.

“We shouldn’t forget that Umno has remained in power for so long because of the Malays.

“In fact, it is time Umno stopped reminiscing about what it has done for the Malays,” he said in his speech while the debating presidential policy speech at the 2016 Umno General Assembly here, Friday.

He added that that the biggest challenges facing the Malays today were no longer special rights, privileges or supremacy, but the ability to compete and succeed.

“The real issue affecting the Malays today is its preparation and capability to compete and succeed in the 21st century.

“It is time for the party to offer a new narrative, a new agenda while renewing hopes to the Malays,” said Ayub.

He added that Umno needs to provide the answers to the Malays.
However, the speech may not have meant to criticise the President but to get UMNO members to think outside the dependent NEP mindset of Mahathir. More archaic thinking is very much at large within Dato Ibrahim Ali-led PERKASA.

Way forward

NST report on Ayub's speech covered the essence:

Johor Umno delegate proposes bold "new deal" to empower Malays

By MELISSA DARLYNE CHOW - 2 December 2016 @ 10:54 AM

KUALA LUMPUR: A Johor delegate today said the time has come for Umno to formulate a more concrete, pragmatic and comprehensive "new deal" to empower and develop the Malays.

Datuk Ayub Rahmat, in debating the Umno president’s policy speech, said this is to ensure all issues affecting Malays in the 21st century can be addressed in an open and orderly manner.

The Kemelah assemblyman lamented that while many strategies had been crafted in the past, they did not offer true solutions to problems plaguing the Malays.

“Umno must come forward to bring this 'new deal' to all Malays. "So what is the Developed Malays Agenda (Agenda Melayu Maju)? Firstly, it is an agenda that ensures that Malays have economic resilience in a globalised era.

“Secondly, it must ensure Malays prosper. Thirdly, it makes Malaysia more Islamic, but modern and global.

“It must provide quality education that teaches suitable skills for the 21st century. "The government must also be managed in a trustworthy manner and based on best practices.

"And lastly, it makes Malays a great community,” he said at the Umno general assembly today.

Ayub also proposed that a group comprising outstanding Malays be set up - those who have the expertise and brains to plan, fine tune and formulate this agenda.

“Let them then present it to Umno. And say, six months from now, hold a meeting or a gathering to present and launch the ‘Transformasi Agenda Melayu Maju’, for us to debate, approve and then present to the Malay community,” he added.
The government's role could no more be to involve in every damn thing. They could lay out the framework, incentives, and infrastructure. The Malays and rakyat have to seize on it.

NGOs like Perkasa has to stop their merely desak mendesak kerajaan role. It is out-dated and serve no purpose. At best, they are merely messengers and playing role of go between the certain political  interest and government.

NEP have long gone and the world have significantly changed. It is still the 60 year old lost in trying to explain what and why needs of the past. They can all regroup within PPBM and live out their extinction.

The opportunity presented by the government move for HSR, digital economy and many others are immense. Technology would be changing the strategic importance of location. Economic model could change from managing scare resources to that where resources are in abundant.

True NGO should have specific programs and core activities with purpose and goals, which is not merely seminar, forums and talk talk events.

Malay political parties, NGOs, community leaders and particularly IPTA should assist the Malays with more how to in order to seize on the opportunity and help elevate the burden on government. Since civil service are incapable of playing the role expected of them, they should feel up the void.

The desak desak of the Ibrahim Ali variants are old school and out-dated, not in-sync with the more indie thinking of the new generation

The birthplace of Muhammad near Masjidil Haram, Makkah

Over Friday sermon last Friday, the Imam reminded the congregation of the Maulidur Rasul celebration on Monday today.

It is the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. on the 17th day of the month of Rabiul Awwal in the year of the Elephant 570 AD.

He received revelation in 610 AD. And made hijrah or migration to Medina in 622 AD, the commencement of the Hijrah Muslim calender. More in this biography here.

The Imam went at length about loving the Prophet in his sermon. The person next to us was reacting with controlled ecstacy to the many words of the Imam.

It was not a sermon delivered with such depth.

And it is not the first time we have heard such words. Maybe hundreds in this lifetime. To each his own spiritual journey. The person was experiencing his own awakening.

Though leaving him by himself, it got us to ponder and think. Love of God was something that took us a while to appreciate and understand.

And now to appreciate the meaning behind the love for the Prophet. It would be more meaningful to explore on the celebration of his birth this year.

To discourage acts idolising Muhammad, the Saudi government turned the site into a library

Last week after the UMNO General Assembly on Saturday, we were forced to take a break thus no review.

It only happen to coincide with school holiday. From Friday till checkout time Saturday, we had ample free time to give some thought. Though it may not be the answer ....

In the sermon, the Imam reminded the congregation the pracctice to recite the Selawat blessing for the Prophet.

One short Selawat is "Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa aali Muhammad" (O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad).

The Imam went further to tell the congregation that Allah give Selawat blessing to the Habibbullah (his loved one). By us giving our Selawat blessing to the Prophet, the Prophet will give his Selawat blessing in return.

Among others, the Imam suggested to recite 1,000 Selawat a day.

Why the need for us to give blessing to the one already chosen by Allah for heaven? Why must the benefit of getting the Prophet's return blessing be the reason to send blessing to the Prophet? Why recite the blessing in such numbers?

These are the sort of questions the rationalist among us will be asking and seldom the generic answers from Imam and teachers were able to address their curiosity.

As for the 1,000 Selawat, it is easy to lose focus as one got lost in the counting. Not to mention, it can get tiresome and sleepy. So the rationalist may need other form of approach to heighten their love for the Prophet.

The sufi or tariqah rituals could run in the tens of thousands. The wali or saint do it in perpetuity.

All is not lost. There are other ways to practise the Selawat ritual [read here].

It is helpful to understand the meaning in order to achieve the spiritual state or some claim as psychological method to embody the feeling of love for the Prophet.

Knowing

The second way the Imam suggested was to learn more of the person, his history or sirah Nabi, emulate his character and adab, and practise the message of God in the words of the Quran and elaboration through the Hadith.

The deeper our understanding thus the deeper our appreciation and love.

In the respect or admiration of political leaders, many reach the point of loving to believe everything said, agree and abide to everything told, defend to the hilt without doubt or question, and perpetuate the ideas and thinking.

They could come by the tens of thousands or if not, millions to hear the leader deliver their speech or merely to attend any event. They become sad and cry of mishap or anything untowards happening to the leader and any of his or her family member.

The ultra fanatics or mahataksub go to the extend of covering their leader's wrongdoings or inconsistencies in their stand between the present and past or conflicts between deeds and words.

The love for the Prophet is different. Muhammad is not perfection but his is "The embodiment of perfection", as the title of NST column by the Turkish scholar, Harun Yahya yesterday.

Not unlike the shortcomings of political leaders, more so if they have been around more than half a century, Muhammad is flawless in character and deeds thus incomparable to present day human.

But have we Muslims generally been giving him as much adoration as to the leaders? With adoration, come love.

To celebrate Muhammad, Muslims should abide by the propagated message of Allah as part of our aqeedah (belief) or Iman which include our belief in Muhammad.

Believing in the teachings of Muhammad is synonymous with following the message and commend of Allah.

That alone makes it inconceivable that there are Muslims disbelieving the words of Muhammad and make unlearned dispute of Hadith. Its blasphemous!

Without spiritual guidance of knowledge and practise, they question through sheer logic to dispute the words of the learned blessed with the epistemology of knowledge.

It is through Muhammad that the practises of Islam to recite the syahadah (oath of faith), pray, fast, pay alm, and perform haj are introduced.

Finally, Muhammad asked upon Muslim to seek Ihsan. It is the spiritual embodiment to translate and apply the values and universalities of Islam in our everyday deeds and actions.

It is the very reason we could not accept the pragmatism of politics to allow different hats or serban for different situation. Islam has to transcend into every aspect of our lives including politics.

Lies, slander, misinformation, spin, and various deception techniques in political agenda setting are unIslamic.

The minimal thing Muslims must do is to understand, appretiate and emulate the attributes of Muhammad.

The example of Muhammad character of siddeq (truth), and amanah (honest) lies in the nicname Al Amin (trustworthy) bestowed by his tribe as a young adult.

Whatever the circumstances or higher purpose, one should remain truthful and not lie, remain honest or reliable and never be the traitor or commit act of treason.

Muslims must be emulate Muhammad's fathanah (wisdom) to be clever or smart in the pursuit to achieve wisdom.

The wisdom of the Prophet is not to compromise to lies or deception but to remain honest steadfast to Allah's message and command.

In awe

One should be in awe with the achievements of this illiterate orphan from Makkah that took up God's command to tabligh or teach and propagate the message of Allah to the world and be the fine example to humanity.

Yet how many of us could achieve our worldly pursuit for wealth or position or other world trappings, be it for self or family, without the compromise of greater good?

That alone should make us in awe of the man dubbed by the Jewish American astrophysicist, Michael H. Hart in his 1978 book, "The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History" as the most influential person in history.

It is certainly denigrating the messenger of Allah be used in political exchanges to dismiss someone as not a Prophet because of certain allegations.

It is equivalent to an insult in the past on the subject of shaving. No one today can be Prophet. And, why even remotely associate him with any impropriety.

Far from adoration for the person, it is disrespectful to the man that showed us to enlightenment. More so, it is an insult meant to be laughed at by non believers.

It is the will of Allah that we become Muslims and it is Allah's will that not all of humanity become Muslims. It is to mock the will of Allah to say the world is not only for Muslim. Know the limit in our narrative.

On this day of his birth, our Salawat ...

New King and the many events to end the year

$

Yesterday, December 13th 2016 was the installation of the Kelantan Sultan, DYMM Sultan Muhammad V as the new Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di Pertuan Agong.

It marked a momentous end for the second reign of Almu'tasimu Billahi Muhibbuddin Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Muazzam Shah as the 14th King. It is both historical and a unique event to many Malaysians' lifetime.

His departure was a touching moment to many.

There are those that hoped the Sultan of Pahang will be reinstalled again as Agong to repeat another moment in Malaysian history.

The Council of Malay Rulers decided to repeat the same sequence that installed Sultan Yahya Petra of Kelantan after the same Sultan of Kedah in September 1979.

The installation of Sultan of Kelantan as the new King started out with a little mixed-up which ended up becoming a controversy. Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah was wrongly invited and had their invitation withdrawn.

Joceline Tan saw it as the past catching up on the present [read here.] It drew criticism from both the Tun and his excessively wala' followers to blame the palace retraction on Dato Najib.

One Facebooker follower, now with PKR, went to the extent of doing a cyber prank.

And, The Star made an embarrassing mistake which could be politically misinterpreted towards MCA.

The new Agong is seldom seen as being quite informal and warm in his moments with the rakyat . Yesterday, his majesty looked energetic and walked with a relatively fast pace upon his arrival at the Istana.

HSR and Bridge

Prime Minister Najib too was active and had an eventful day.

After the installation ceremony with the new King, he rushed to Putrajaya for the agreement signing between Malaysia and Singapore for the high speed rail project.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Singapore’s Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan signed on behalf of their respective government.

The project was seen as a game changer and would change relationship between the two countries. Najib said, "It will change the way we conduct business, the way people move and also lifestyles".

The historic signing of the bilateral agreement was made at the end of the Seventh Annual Leaders’ Retreat. And, the retreat may have achieved another momentous agreement.

Both side agreed to build a high bridge to link Malaysia and Singapore under the Johor Baru-Singapore Rait Transit System. It serve to reduce congestion at the causeway and cut travel time between the two cities by 90 minutes. [read Rakyat Post here].

That is better than having a curve bridge in the middle of the Straits of Tebrau. Being straight is always better than being crooked with hidden ill-intentions and ulterior motives. If it leads to the end of the causeway, it proves patience and diplomacy achieve more than confrontation and antagonism.

If that is not enough train for the day, the promo for the first phase of the MRT line commenced yesterday. NajibRazal.com commented and announced the official opening of the 12 sttions between Sg Buloh to Damansara to be officially launched this Thurday.

PPBM cop out

Sorry to rub in the party with the person who envisioned the crooked bridge. Train rolls on ...

Another event believed to be a game changer in the political front was supposed to happen yesterday. Mahathir announced PPBM was to join Pakatan Harapan prior to the PH Convention on November 13. It was at the convention that he suggested PH emulate BN to run on a single logo and manifesto.

He made the customary critic of PAS as he used to as then PM. However, when it was told joining PH comes with a condition, PPBM postphoned the announcement. Tan Sri Muhyiddin was blamed for having cold feet.

They are supposed to sign and announce their membership of PH yesterday but it turned out to be just cooperation.

It is an open secret that Muhyiddin is in negotiation with PAS and his boys swear by the "holy" soil of Nik Aziz grave that the announcement is a matter of time. In spite of that, Mahathir attended the Annual Conventions of DAP and PAN to raise praises of DAP at the expense of MCA and made cynical remarks at PAS to make up their mind.

The PAS remark was a response to Tuan Ibrahim clarification that appearing with UMNO at the rally for Rohingya does not mean they are in coalition.

PAS subsequently gave an ultimatum with a clear message that lips that eat pork will not kiss them. Not exactly so, but PAS made it clear they will not be in coalition with those in cooperation with DAP and PAN.

They may have invited PKR and PPBM for their ceramah in Klang but PAS choice of alignment remains a question. They have been in bed with PKR in Selangor thus both DNAs are on the bedsheets as court evidence. Yet they claim to have no interest to join PH but will not allow easy win for BN in the event of a three-way fight.

Muhyiddin was asked of their negotiation but chose "to remain discrete and formal". But he did mentioned PPBM is asking for seats to contest. It made a pro-UMNO blogger commented, "Tak hebat la kalau kena jadi pengemis."
Yes, when it comes to the crucial matter of seat, where is the protun-claimed greatness of PPBM? What will their candidate list look like with Muhyiddin unsure between Pagoh or Muar and Mukhriz between Jerlun or Kubang Pasu or Langkawi?

Are they assured to deliver seats to the opposition pact of two alliances? Facebook and social media is one thing, but realpolitik is a game of faces and numbers.
PPBM is to hold their inaugral convention soon. Will PKR members be hired to fill up a stadium? No ... that is Shafie Apdal's MO.

Break for Boboi

And all is not lost for the anti Najib.

Anwar lost in his last bid for freedom. There is no merits in his 35 grounds appeal to the Court of Appeal decision. He goes back in and will be too old to return to politic upon his release and qualification to run.

Opposition cannot campaign for Anwar to be PM and if there is anyone to blame, it is little brother Anwar.

Muhyiddin as an option is back in play. Off course, Mahathir wants Mukhriz and RPK speculate DAP too is comfortable with Mukhriz as their puppet. If only DAP knows how stubborn he is ...

Sabotage charges

Yesterday, court ruled for Matthias Chang and Dato Khairuddin Abu Hassan to remain out on bail. Court of Appeal ruled their charges is not security offenses thus should not be held under SOSMA.

They are facing trial on the charge of attempting to sabotage the country’s banking and financial services under Section 124L of the Penal Code. [read The star here].

DOJ KARI charge

Matthias and Dato Husam Musa withdrew their civil lawsuit in the US. There could be many hidden reasons but they said it is to wait and see the outcome of the DOJ KARI case. The fight is about to begin.

The first reported hearing of the California Court with regard to the Kleptocrasy case against Red Granite, Riza Aziz, Taek Jho Loh, and he other two Arab for December 12th produced the expected.

Taek Jho Loh family claimed the assets linked to him as their. They are seeking court permission in Cayman Island and New Zealand to change trustee. They applied to the US court to postphone hearing to January 23rd [read CNA here].

The move was rejected by the US Court [read Reuters and ST here and here, respectively].

It is the second such news reported on the DOJ Kleptocrasy case which was dubbed to be related to 1MDB. The first was court permission to Red Granite to separate out income from movie financed by source under investigation. Any seize and forfeit will not affect Red Granite and other movie production work.

Before DOJ case could get started, Jho Loh's name already surfaced in the trial in Singapore against BSI executive, Yeo Jiawei. The trial proves squeaky clean Singapore and it's banking system monitoring and control can be equally rotten.

JMD can recycle explanations with nasty headlines but it is NOT PROOF yet that Najib participated directly and is an accomplice to siphon money out of the 1MDB deals. At best, the protun can only argue is to do makan dedak character attack. The possibility Jho Loh allegedly acted on his own accord need be debunk and with proofs!
Will Jho Loh appear to defend himself in the US Court?
If he decide not to appear and put his case up, the enlisted assets will be seized and forfeited as criminal charges will be put together against him and his other accomplices or agents.

His appearance will answer to the many allegations made that have become more political than legal or financial.
Will the evidence available with DOJ be admissable in court? Who are the witness to confirm ownership of the various documents?

Of academic interest, what is the rationale behind the deal structure put together by Jho Loh - to intentionally money launder or other legitimate reason?
Reported yesterday that Andre Xavier Justo is due to be granted pardon.
Is Justo's leaked documents true or adulterated? Who did he met to sell the illegal documents?
Should Jho Loh appear, he is likely to be apprehended for questioning by US authorities. He has been disappearing and whereabouts unknown. Heard to be in Taiwan and moving around in his luxury yatch. Last reported yatch seen off the shores of Hong Kong.

An eventful ending to 2016 and promising to be an exciting 2017.

Thought the Protasco case of 2014 was a lost cause.

It was reported in July 2016 that the ex-Directors of Protasco, Datuk Ooi Kock Aun, 49, and Datuk Tey Por Yee, 40 were charged for failing to disclose their interest in their deal involving Protasco. [read The Star here].

Despite an attempt to put an injuction on the EGM from voting, Tey was ousted in late 2014. He subsequently sold his shares in the construction company much talked about for securing the privatisation of JKR road maintenance and having high VO. [read MMO and The Star here, here and here].

However, there was a yummy surprise.

A blog by the name of Borneostreetnews alerted their presence in the commentary. One of the posting claimed the duo Ooi and Tey were charged using fake evidence [read here].

This is serious allegation made towards registrar, SC, police and prosecutor. Were they in collusion with Protasco major shareholder, Dato Chong?

There were several postings exposing the alleged lies perpatrated by Prostasco [read here, here and here].

On the political scene, making allegations based on fake evidence is abound. 1MDB is seeking far from finality to determine whether the political allegation based on corporate legal matter is not fake. And this is ccorporate legal matter allegedly based on fake evidence. Malaysia boleh!

Good cop, bad cop trick to save Rohingya

It's easy for good intention to be downplayed by politics.

Just because the Rohingya cause was championed by both UMNO and PAS, doubt have to be implanted. Immediately, the joint demonstration is painted as mere political hype.

The humanitarian effort is being downplayed with bigotry inclination. If the genocide victims were Myanmar Buddhist, it will subtly allowed to be misinterpreted as though UMNO and PAS would not be concerned. Some outrightly infer it is a Muslim versus Buddhist clash

It is a humanitarian disaster and the situation is worsening. No politics please.

All parties should put aside local politics and unite to support the effort without question. It is the worse time to discuss and criticise policies for political mileage as Azrul Md Khalid did in FMT to claim Najib's megaphone diplomacy failed.

Desperate times call for creative measures.Ever hear of good cop and bad cop?

Wisma Putra: Vocal stand on Rohingyas has produced results

FMT Reporters | December 15, 2016

In explaining the reason for Putrajaya’s strong stand against the persecution of Rohingyas in Myanmar, foreign ministry says the vocal tone has contributed to Myanmar hosting a meeting to discuss the issue.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s strong stand against the persecution of Rohingyas is the reason Myanmar is hosting an Asean Foreign Ministers’ Retreat on Dec 19 to discuss the situation in the northern Rakhine state, says Wisma Putra.

“Myanmar’s willingness to address the criticism head-on is a change of tact for the country, as was the change in Malaysia’s tone in dealing with Myanmar.” the foreign ministry said in a statement today.

It was responding to a comment piece in FMT, “Myanmar’s Snub to Malaysia’s Megaphone Diplomacy”, by Azrul Mohd Khalib on Dec 12.

The statement said Foreign Minister Anifah Aman was prepared to discuss with his Myanmar counterpart, Aung San Suu Kyi, on how Malaysia could “assist Myanmar in finding a just, expeditious and durable solution to the protracted issue in the northern Rakhine state”.

In talking about the recent rally protesting the atrocities in Myanmar against the Rohingyas, and where Prime Minister Najib Razak had voiced strong condemnation, Azrul had suggested better results could have been expected if a more diplomatic approach had been taken.

He had said: “Arguably, the recent actions of the government jeopardise any further possibility of Malaysia playing a credible part or sincere role in ensuring a long-term resolution to what is happening in Rakhine State.”

Rebutting this, the foreign ministry said it believed that “it is due to Malaysia’s vocal position on the issue” that Myanmar had now come forward to host the Asean Foreign Ministers’ Retreat.

The foreign ministry went on to explain why Putrajaya was taking such a strong stand.

Malaysia, it said, was concerned that if the crisis in northern Rakhine State was not addressed urgently by the Myanmar government, it would impact the security and stability of the region, including Malaysia.

“The exodus of more refugees to neighbouring countries, including Malaysia, would witness a repeat of the 2015 boat people crisis.

In fact, it said, during the 2015 boat people crisis, Malaysia played an instrumental role by convening a tripartite meeting with Indonesia and Thailand at Wisma Putra in May that year.

A this meeting, Malaysia and Indonesia agreed to provide humanitarian assistance and temporary shelter to 7,000 boat people stranded along the three countries’ maritime borders while awaiting resettlement or repatriation.

“Malaysia’s leading role in this instance led to a resolution of the crisis and saved innocent lives,” it said.

The statement went on to say: “That is why Malaysia views the current situation in the northern Rakhine state as no longer an ‘internal affair’ but one of regional consequence.”

It noted that Asean, as a community of nations, had a responsibility to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of peoples in accordance with the Asean Charter and the Charter of the United Nations, as well as the Asean Human Rights Declaration.

“It is in this context that Malaysia, as an Asean member state, is taking a strong position on the issue. Malaysia needs to speak out on issues regarding gross violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms as it is the right thing to do,” the statement added.
Bernama report in The Mole reads as Anifah ready to meet Aung Sung Suu Kyi.

According to Bung Nagara, Senior Fellow at ISIS, Suu Kyi has no voice. However, a series of material received proved otherwise:
It fits in with the unthinkable perception perpetrated on the Buddhist monks of Myanmar:

However, it unthinkable for men of the cloth to resort to such violence and inhumane acts. Practising Buddhist are the most peaceful and considerate people.

There is a lot not known of the Rohingya humanitarian disaster. There is a history to be understood. It is likely to be another human spoils or social time bomb left by the colonial master before independence to its colonies.

There is the local economic, cultural, and security issues to consider.

In the meanwhile, we could the least pray for the Rohingya or help e-mail Ban Ki-moon to urge him to fly to Burma and negotiate to *LET THE AID IN. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is making much effort.

There are many ways to help the Rohingya and it includes helping them here too and making donation:

And it is never too late in life for a new year resolution. There are resolutions that will remain pledged year in year out ... kaizen for continuous improvement.

Few actions taken in 2016 involuntarily turned out worthy for a new year resolution - to change and be yourself.

Will follow what the instinct say. It is usually right.

Take me back to my own home

Oh my crying (Oh my crying)
Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back to my own home

A Whiter Shade Of Pale

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, 'There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see.'
But I wandered through my playing cards
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might have just as well've been closed

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

And so it was that later

Banal attack on ECRL

$
0

The Edge made a false claim that ECRL will be the most costliest rail in the world.

Subsequently, it was made an issue during the parliament session. It was sensational thus it became the subject of conversations at office water cooler, coffeeshops and rumour mongering platforms of Whass App and Telegram.

A commentary in The Mole here dispel such claim. An extract below:
... The Edge claimed the ECRL cost is RM91.67m per km, which is equivalent to USD20.55m or £16.45m per km.

The estimated construction cost for a California HSR line is USD55m per km. And, HS2 planned for Britain is estimated at £78.5m per km.

Even though it is not an apple to apple comparison, surely ECRL cannot be “the world’s costliest railway”!
He agreed construction cost is not only relevant but critical in any successful implementation of expensive rail projects. Malaysiakini is fair to say public transportation cannot make money. [Read this article by The Telegraph here on proper discussion on cost]

However, the issues raised tend to be political sensationalism and trivial. It is not looking at the perspective that matters most i.e. long term economic development.

To argue it is not the right time and priority for other matter, it is banal and shallow. Calling it white elephant in the making is prejudice and negative.

Dato Abdul Rahman Dahlan earlier claimed the opposition critics makes no sense.

Datuk Toh Chin Yaw of MCA Terengganu felt opposition interest is "to derail and sabotage the project", which "will be undertaken after careful feasibility studies, valuations and due diligence".

Game changer

Terengganu see the ECRL beyond an alternative mode of transportation but a game changer for the state. The Mole extract:
The game-changing ECRL should be seen beyond better logistics for goods and people to/from Klang Valley. Economic activities and growth could be generated along the route and nearby area in the neglected East Coast states.

To spend additional billions of ringgit to extend the line to link Port Klang and connect to the 30-percent China-owned Kuantan Port, there must be a strategic reason. The proposed plan is for a ratio of 70:30 cargos to passenger.
Since it is part of One Belt One Road of China's infrastructure grand masterplan for Asia, it could be business from China that would be paying for the HSR!

Quoting from The Mole article:
All these concerns do not downplay the need for efficient transport as a necessary component for development.

Those critics quoting from HSS Engineers Berhad feasibility study should have pointed out shortcomings in the economic viability of the project.

Efficient transport systems reduce cost and time, improve reliability, and minimise waste from loss and damage. It links raw materials, parts, energy, and labor, and broader markets into a web of producers and consumers. And, it enables efficient division of production, leveraging of geographical comparative advantage, and opportunity for expansion.

More location translates to wider network and market size-access to achieve economies of scale. All these translate to growth.

For TK Chua in FMT here to claim Dato Rahman Dahlan's first statement was not sufficiently punchy, it was hardly a deadly blow. He was drawn to reveal his cards and actually did Rahman a favour.

He was yet to reply to Rahman's answer on the loan from China here.

There is no urgency in the project. He did not read the part in here about the planning was done since 2007.

It will be given due process. That answers the premature preemptive concerns by Salleh Muhammad. also in FMT here. Malaysia have experiences project management of rail projects which among others are STAR, KTM, KTM Commuter, and PUTRA.

Technology transfer

On the overused and abused term of technology transfer, The Mole comment highlighted:
There is opportunity from the massive development of rail transport to acquire technology and expertise, gain management skill and develop supporting services. Local universities could develop courses, establish faculty and conduct research on rail engineering.

This is something MIGHT need to look. A new leadership with commercial experience and fresh new idea is needed to develop this sub-sector into a new industry.
This is a genuine concern. Too often offset programs are not taken up after the deals are completed.

We need to be serious and diligent on this. It cannot be merely projects for civil work and construction of stations to play up the stocks of public listed companies. They should be learning up on signalling, communication and rolling stocks.

Finally there will soon to be no more issue with the blacklisted contractor CCCC. The UN sanction expire in January, few more days. Anyway, this is not a UN project but funded by China.

A look at their website here reveals that be it CCCC or its subsidiaries, Penang have been benefiting from the company andinvestment from China generally

Disputing opposition

In last week's analysis on ECRL, The Edge still insist to spread a lie that the cost is actually RM46 million but someone flip RM9 billion out. Public may have the perception that China still do business like any 3rd world country thus willing to collude.

The inspiration came from none other than the Sarawak Report. Read their July posting here [if you could get access].

Below was replied:

Not sure whether it has something to do with Gemas-JB double tracking here. More here.

Despite several explanations on comparative cost with other HSRs and earlier estimates to the announced estimates [read LSS here], the opposition is still adamant and the world costliest rail will surely be a slogan for latter day campaign.

Tony Pua referred to a study commissioned to HSSI but intentionally ignored the currency difference and finalised plan, including retreating the starting terminal from Gombak to Port Klang. That added 88 km to the original 600 km earlier plan and passing through prime areas.

Rafizi boo boo on the RM21 billion cost for two phases instead of one phase, so ECRL at RM25 billion?

Tony Pua also falsely alleged ECRL cost was increased by 130% to create prejudice against China companies by accusing them of transferring illegal money and implicated them with 1MDB.

Rahman pointed out that in quoting the costs for double-tracking railway projects on the West Coast of RM44m per km for Ipoh-Padang Besar and RM39.8m per km for Gemas-Johor Bahru, opposition ignored the projected cost of RM257.14m per km for Penang’s proposed 7.5km passenger-only LRT project from Komtar to Penang airport.

When Tony Pua replied as asking to stop changing lines, it means he ran out of arguments to reply back.

This quote from business website, intheblack.coma's September 2015 posting here is a tip-off to not use that argument again:
While the infrastructure unit price of HSR in Europe is US$25-39 million per kilometre and the current estimated cost for California is US$56 million per kilometre, China’s figure comes in at US$17-21 million.
Racism

Heavens! Definitely not Dato Abdul Kadir Jasin's arguments to insist show bank-in slip in typical retail transaction and jual negarafor a multi-billion G-to-G deal.

Deal with Arabs, selling country away to Arab. Play golf with Obama, neo-colonisation. Britain must have allowed Malaysian reverse colonisation to allow Battersea development.

Please not recycle the same Mahathir's argument against Singapore to bring Pak Lah down. He was manipulating on public ignorance and gullibility.

Wong Chun Wai claimed it marks of racism. He suggested critics face the reality that Malaysia cannot rely on western capital anymore.

And, there will always be ridiculous claim to come from Rafizi like the claim the operating company is owned personally by two people. This is not the era Francis Yeoh, Ananda Krishnan and Vincent Tan roams.

These oppositions needs enlightenment of China's OBOR and Silk Road Initiative (SRI). They need to appreciate the historical, strategic, trade and good governance spirit behind the initiatives.

It closes the east-west peninsular gap and rectify the years of neglect under Mahathir towards Kelantan and the Malay hinterland in the East Coast. Is the opposition boycotting their fixed deposit?

If they still insist to protest ECRL, how about doing their protest at Tianamen Square!

Daim raised issue of Taman Tugu and Bukit Kiara

$

Latest The Edge published a viewpoint of former Finance Minister, Tun Daim Zainuddin.

His article about chronic trust deficit was translated to Malay and published in Sinar Harian on Sunday  here.

Daim seldom speak thus his comments tend to draw attention.

Usually his views could be interpreted in many ways. Different interest different understanding.

He had three major points of concern. But the second is interesting:

It is fair to express concern on the empathy of those above for the rakyat.

Quite sure the opposition including BN-turned opposition voices would use that to attack the government. Election is drawing near.

Most of his comments have been heard before in one form or another. It is the part about Taman Tugu and Bukit Kiara that is of interest.

Daim is known to be resourceful in securing information. He knows something others do not know yet. He tells he is sold stocks to makan rojak and market tumble.

Does he know something we do not know happening with the Taman Tugu project?

Heard one of the party mentioned as part of the group to develop do not know head or tail about it. But why would Khazanah be doing name throwing?

Since Bukit Kiara is mentioned, there is land allocated for national park. Daim asked why it was not gazetted?

It is fine for Khazanah to develop and do cross funding for Taman Tugu. But it is not fine should companies without link to Khazanah has interest.

Worse still, some personality with position within Khazanah has interest for the ungazetted land.

Believe it was in mid 80s that DBKL, an entity under the PM Department gave away land cheap cheap ... to Tan Sri Vincent Tan.

The land is believed to be the present Bukit Kiara Country & Equesterian Resort under Berjaya.

Maybe Daim do not wish to see a repeat of the same incident. Lim Kit Siang wrote of it in his blog.

Kit Siang will be silent on past issues and not likely to remind the public of the issue. Someone can help google it but Lim Sian See raised this issue in his October FB posting [read in this blog here]

Kit Siang has change stand to praise Mahathir's 22 years. With Mahathir and Kit Siang changing their stand, it vindicated those changing side one and a half year ago. :)

Is there more than meets the eye in Daim's point 1?

Khazanah boys are usually associated with one former trader who lost RM16 billion or some say RM30 billion.

Images are taken from Apanama.

He should have published the third concern and better, the whole article. Then it is clearer for other's to analyse.

Rhetorics is not analysis. It is is hardly a conclusion and could be presumptous.

Is DBKL cavorting in Mahathir cronies' lease and "lesap" scam at Bukit Kiara?

Tun Daim's comment about Taman Tugu and Bukit Kiara reminded of Dato Nuraina's 2012 blog posting on Bukit Kiara here. Extract below:
Bukit Kiara To Remain Green Lung

Well..that was what they all said back in the mid 90s. Not all of us have short memory, That was when residents in Taman Tun Dr Ismail fought to retain and preserve Bukit Kiara as a green lung reserve. These residents were fighting powerful developers and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

And that was something I could not understand -- fighting City Hall to preserve the environment.

And I still cannot understand.

Apparently, it is not just Tan Sri Vincent Tan that got cheap 70 acres land planned for national park in a 70 years land lease in 1989. [Link is in here]. Another Mahathir crony was also "given" 40 hectares land at Bukit Kiara in 1998 in what looks suspiciously to be another ...

... long planned lease and "lesap" scam.

The land in question was leased to MEASAT Digicast Sdn Bhd and supposedly a subsidiary of MEASAT Global Berhad (MEASAT) for the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

Binariang Sdn Bhd took up the initiative for Tun Dr Mahathir and launched the Malaysia East Asia Satellite in 1992. Initially, the initiative was under Maxis but has turned independent [The history in MEASAT web here].

MEASAT basically belongs to Mahathir's crony. Is it crony or proxy?

This fight to save and preserve the Bukit Kiara land had been for a while. It had the support of BN MPs and politicians.

In 2005, Parliament's PAC led by Tan Sri Shahrir Samad met up with DBKL's Mayor, Datok Ruslin Hasan. Also supporting is then Minister for Youth and Sports, Dato Azalina Md Said.

DBKL concurred with the group Friends of Bukit Kiara (FOBK). Read Oct 11th 2005 report, "Victory in sight after 10-year fight"by The Malay Mail.

In 2006, it was reported:
A parcel of land in Bukit Kiara, leased to Measat Digicast Sdn Bhd for carrying out media broadcasting during the 1998 Commonwealth Games, is likely to become another green lung in the city.

Friends of Bukit Kiara (FOBK), a nongovernmental organisation, in a media statement said Kuala Lumpur City Hall will not permit any development on the vacant land.
FOBK was quoted by the Sundaily in their April 25th 2006 report:
"We are thankful and fortunate for the support from several cabinet ministers, parliamentarians and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi himself in resolving this matter."
Those mentioned supporting the initiative by FOBK were:
... Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Azalina Othman, the Education Ministry, Women, Family and Community Development Minister and former acting Federal Territories Minister Datuk Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Subang member of parliament Tan Sri K.S. Nijhar, Woman, Family and Community Development parliamentary secretary and PJ Utara MP Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, PJ Selatan MP Datuk Donald Lim and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk M. Kayveas.
Government was talking to gazette three plot of lands for large scale public park. The Star report August 3rd 2011:
Government in land talks for park

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government is in negotiations to gazette three plots of land for a large-scale public park project in Bukit Kiara.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung said development had started on four lots of land for the park, an initiative under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

“The development of the three lots has not started as the Government is still in the midst of negotiating for two lots that were leased to Measat and one lot that is partly occupied by Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club.

“We are in the final stages of negotiations. Hopefully, it will done by next year,” he said during a press conference at the Bakti building in Taman Tun Dr Ismail yesterday.
Read on here.
In Sin Chew's Bernama July 14, 2012 report, it was mentioned:

Asked why the federal government took a long time to gazette the land, Chor said the government was in negotiation with Measat Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd for land lots which were leased out to them.

"The government is negotiating with them to move out, so that they can go to another place. They have been offered another place, and they are considering moving out. Once they move out, only then can we really calculate the exact area of this 'green lung' to gazette it as a public park," he said.

An extract from FMT March 9, 2014 report below:
On paper, the hill is divided into seven parcels, with Berjaya Corporation owning 25.1 hectares of it, Measat owning another parcel and the rest belonging to the NLD.

Berjaya wanted to develop its land into real estate, but the bid was blocked by Kuala Lumpur City Hall. At the same time, however, NLD has embarked on a series of efforts to “upgrade” the hill with built structures.

A perimeter fence 3.5m high and 4.7km long is being erected and is 80% complete. NLD has claimed that the purpose is to demarcate Bukit Kiara from neighbouring private lands.

Other developments include the construction of a retention wall to prevent landslips.

The Friends of Bukit Kiara (FOBK), a loose coalition of NGOs, has accused the authorities of allowing the hill to be destroyed by the new structures.

Maintain Bukit Kiara

FOBK says the fence, which it calls The Great Wall of Bukit Kiara, was built at the expense of cutting down some 3,000 mature trees.
The Minister said something but on the ground is was something else:
On June 5th, 2012, Tristupe blog wrote: A Gruesome Find In Bukit Kiara.

Accused were Jabatan Lanskap Negara.

As earlier as May 2015, there were developers encroaching into the area. There would not be encroaching without DBKL's dobby mark. Some names were mentioned and raised by pro-opposition bloggers. [Read Din Merican and Steady Ku here and here]

They prefer to quickly steer the conclusion to corruption and cronyism. Those mentioned are small plays. It had always been supported by BN politicians. And it still is.

Lets be clear that corruption cannot happen if civil servants are not a party to it. Hope Malaysian not mudah lupa . It was only August [read here] that MACC held and subsequently charge a Development Director of DBKL which owned 33 condominiums!

Federal Government can plan but DBKL can botch it up and put up barriers to sabotage. Politicians may have good intentions but civil servants may not cooperate. And opposition politicians can be corrupt too. As one source claimed PH politicians can be four times more corrupt.

The Little Napolean civil servants can ignore the directive to do something else as happen in the Dato Keramat condo development [read here].

In the case of Berjaya, those familiar with the case claimed the lease agreement from DBKL was made loose and the victory for Berjaya in the court was planned. Was it the same with the lease agreement to Ananda Krishnan's MEASAT?

DBKL is under the Prime Minister's Department but there is also a Ministry in charge of Federal Territory. The common blame from the public could be either towards DBKL or FT Minister.

Which is the case and true or false, how come Vincent Tan's Berjaya and Ananda Krishnan's MEASAT could get away with an allegedly loose lease agreement?

Better for Khazanah to give government to develop Bukit Kiara than developing Taman Tugu.

There is insufficient public recreational park in Kuala Lumpur. In most of the major cities and towns in Malaysia, common folks do have a place to spend time with family and morning and evening workout except at shopping malls and paid gyms.

Even the public recreational park tend to be taken up by corporate sponsored events on weekends at expense of public use.

The common folks are being deprived of green lung areas across the country as they are turned into expensive condominium or golf courses or private and exclusive "Country and Equesterian Resort"!

Malaysia's parting Christmas gift for Palestinian

It is reported at the moment, Palestinians are beginning to gather at Manger Square outside the Church of the Nativity in the Israeli-occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem to attend a Christian scouts performance.

The Church of the Nativity is built over the spot Christians believed Mary gave birth to Jesus.

Palestinian News & Info Agency (WAFA) reported:

Bethlehem Christmas celebrations kick off from Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, December 24, 2016 (WAFA) – Christmas celebrations kicked off Saturday with the annual procession led by the Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem Rev. Pierbattista Pizzaballa.

The car procession started at the Latin Patriarchate at Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City with a stopover at Mar Elias Monastery on the outskirts of Bethlehem before completing on its way to Manger Square and the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem, the birth site of Jesus Christ, where it is supposed to arrive there in the early afternoon.

Midnight mass in the presence of President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, along with a long list of foreign and local guests, will be held at St. Catherine Church at the Nativity.

Pope Francis appointed Pierbattista Pizzaballa as Apostolic Administrator following the retirement of Patriarch Fouad Twal in June.

Malaysia's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council (UNDC) will end on December 31st 2016.

In an article in The Star dated December 22nd, 2016 here, Foreign Minister Dato Anifah Aman shared a question he is often asked:
How does Malaysia’s membership of the UNSC benefit Malaysia and its people?
Do read Anifah's article to understand.

Relevent for this auspices moment, Anifah shared Malaysia's dedicated role for the Palestinian:
To ensure that the plight of the Palestinian people continue to receive the attention of the global community, Malaysia chaired three Arria-formula meetings on the situation in Gaza, protection for the people of Palestine and illegal Israeli settlements.

Malaysia will end their UNSC membership on a high note with a resolution spearheaded together with New Zealand, Venezuela and Senegal.

The Minister from Sabah gave a clear instruction to our Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dato' Ramlan Ibrahim to proceed with the resolution to demand end the Israeli settlement building on occupied Palestinian land.

Despite Egypt withdrawal, it became the first such resolution after 36 years of illegal settlements.

It marks our country's unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause.

Dato Najib explained in his statement here that the resolution is not about religion, but it is international community support against continuous infringement of international law by the Israel regime

The 15-membered UNSC passed resolution with the US abstain. The US rebuffed Israel, reported New York Times here.

President of the powerful World Jewish Council expressed dismay with the US.

Donald Trump expected the US to veto as he twitted "things will be different after Jan 20th" at the UN. German news portal, DW reported here.

Israel is expected to arrogantly ignore the resolution. Nevertheless, it is a significant progress.

In co-incident with Christmas, it is also our symbolic gift and a parting one for the peace seeking Palestinians as Malaysia end it's teem as UNSC member.

One day, justice will prevail. There will be peace and joy for Palestinians.

Wishing Merry Christmas to all Malaysian Christians. Ensure there is peace and joy fororever in Malaysia.
