Rouge or ruse, depends on cabinet appointment

$

Till the politics stabilise, it is pointless to discuss or talk of anything else.

Over tea, two foreigners next to our table was asking for comments on politics. Guess he was too eager to express his view. Before we could reply, he gave his 10 second description.

"It is a relay race where someone was supposed to pass the baton i.e. to Anwar but he didn't want to. He had his sight on someone else further away i.e. Mukhriz. Before he could run to pass it, the someone dropped the baton".

The foreigner's comment was almost there, but he did not know that there was no "supposed passing of baton by that someone" to Anwar.

Not with Anwar's reliance on DAP support. PH government fell on merely the no DAP in government crying call and them shooting their own feet, including dropping the baton.

Obviously, the foreigner was overly impressed with Anwar's microphone skills.

Majority Malaysian Muslims have scrutinised him under the microscope that no sermon can convince his moral issues and questionable ideological stand is otherwise.

Since Muhyiddin took his oath of office, the usual theatrics, fake news and false allegation of the former opposition turned opposition again is back in action.

The stunt pulled by two of Muhyiddin's officers to do a strange first speech to specifically mention his criteria for Minister followed by shaming Zahid in court has caused much restlessness in UMNO on the sincerity of Muhyiddin.

The first day is usually only press conference thank you, confidence building statements and yes, we will study or look into this or that.

If Muhyiddin is on the ball, he would mention his priorities will be security, restoring law and order (or any better word than restore), and political stability. Hevshoukd have kept his selection criteria close to his chest.

It is as if some strange hands other than Muhyiddin tried to deny Zahid the position of Deputy PM. The presumption is the relationship between Muhyiddin and Zahid is cordial.

PPBM wants to be in the driver seat at the Federal level, Perak, and Kedah. The two seat party almost hijacked the Melaka CM position through trickery. If not for Sultan's advise, they would insist them to hold Johor MB position.

The arrogant PPBM claimed they fensed a slanting coconut tree but the fruit falls on other people's land.

By the end of the week, voices within UMNO and PAS showed signs of reluctance to be part of cabinet.

Zahid explicitly offered not to be part of cabinet. Though agenda-driven NST seems to promote Hishamuddin or Mohammed Hassan, Muhyiddin has to be careful in his decision for DPM.

Apparently, talk is there were prior agreement for DPM I to be given to Zahid and DPM II to Hadi Awang.

Breaking this agreement could put Muhyiddin's administration on a shaky start before facing a possible vote of no confidence to come on May 18th Parliament seating.

More so, it is strange to see PPBM holding both the PMship and "Opposition Leader" in Parliament.

Muhyiddin himself is not assured of his position in PPBM as Mahathir remain its Chairman. He could take on Mahathir or seek truce.

Muhyiddin and Azmin are being dubbed rouge and traitor.

They are being accused as making the someone not pass the baton to Anwar, dropped the baton and picked it instead to deny Mukhriz the baton.

It does not seem to be a mere act. But the awkward arrangement of PPBM makes the whole episode looks to be a ruse.

Rouge or ruse, it depends on how Muhyiddin announce his cabinet appointments. He could do without a DPM or keep it vacant or appoint one outside party hierarchy.

Whatever his decision, it will determine the fate of his administration and few states.

Will the real culprit behind Sarawak solar project case get exposed tomorrow in court?

It is glaringly clear that the media coverage on the Sarawak solar project case is to constantly paint the picture Datin Seri Rosmah lobbied and pushed for the project to be awarded to Jepak Holdings and Dato Seri Najib requested the government officer to expedite the award to Jepak.

Understandably, it has political value to the previous PH government the to demonise the former Prime Minister and his wife.

As of today, under the officially set-up Perikatan Nasional government, mainstream media is on the same agenda-setting mode to demonise Rosmah. The headline today is of Rosmah asking former Ministry of Education secretary-general, Dato Alias Ahmad to expedite payment to Jepak

One should be reminded of the court statement by Alias's predecesor, Tan Sri Mardinah Mohamad, in which the theme was the same, but intentionally not reported was Mardinah said the Prime Minister's request is taken seriously but we still insist it must be done according to the proper procedures.

Thank god for social media to report another side of an event.

Despite mainstream media having to abide by the script of their political master, one can find glimpses of the real happening inside the court room. For instance, the Bernama report published in The Star here highlighted

Extract of the report:
Alias, 62, said the wife of the former prime minister had also asked him when the contract could be signed because progress payments could not be made if it was not signed.
"I told her Syarikat Jepak (Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd) could not complete the draft of the contract documents to be scrutinised by the ministry," he said at the examination-in-chief by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raya Mohd Farizul Hassan Bakri.
Furthermore:
Reading his witness statement, Alias, who held the post from Sept 5, 2016 until his retirement on May 22, 2018, said Rosmah had also asked him on the development of the advance payment to Jepak Holdings and when it could be made because the company could not move without the payment.
More of the same:
"As far as I can remember, the contract for the project was signed on June 20, 2017, whereby, at that time I had signed the documents of the contract together with Jepak which was represented by its director, Saidi Abang Samsudin," he said.
During cross examination by defense lawyer, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kadir, Alias was caught for issuing the Letter of Acceptance (SST) to Jepak:
Akberdin: You want to uphold what is wrong. Did or did not MoF (Ministry of Finance) approve the application of additional allocation?
Alias: No.
Akberdin: If the MoF does not approve the application for additional allocation, your action in issuing the SST was a deed which flouted the answer of MoF because MoF did not approve (the additional allocation).
Alias: Not true because it was not me who issued the SST. My signature is not on the SST.
Akberdin: You are lying to the court. You want to tell that as the controlling officer you were not informed or did not know when the SST was issued (to Jepak Holdings)?
Alias: Agreed, I don’t know.
Alias will be continuing his statement in court tomorrow and it will not only be interesting, but an explosive possibility that something could be unravelled.

Have personally had dinner with Alias as a KSU of another Ministry. Rather impress with his exposure and experience in security. But he was strangely silent and obedient to the Minister present during the dinner, who seemed hardly well versed with the subject matter he was talking.    .

And, that Minister has an unsavory reputation. Certainly, the statement in court today made us ponder on another side to the character of Alias. It is unlike that of Mardinah, as per the extract from mid-February Borneo Post report below:
“Datuk Rizal Mansor once told me that ‘PM’ (short for prime minister) and ‘ma’am’ asked why there was delay in bringing the application for direct negotiation to the Finance Ministr, despite having told him (Rizal) that it would be done ‘once we have everything ready’.

“I also did tell Datuk Rizal Mansor on the absence of development project to implement the solar hybrid project but he told me to just forward the application and said that the boss would know what to do.
And the then FMT report extract below:
Akberdin pointed out that in Madinah’s witness statement, she had criticised the solar project as a non-viable project and said it was too expensive.

The lawyer added: “I suggest that Tan Sri (Madinah) had failed in your duty to explain to the (then) prime minister (Najib Razak) about Jepak’s solar project back then.”

“I disagreed. I informed him (Najib) in Parliament that the education ministry could not implement this solar project because we did not have sufficient funds and there were some issues that were not properly explained to us,” Madinah said.
For tomorrow, defense may want to scrutinise Alias further on the working paper, documentation etc on whether Alias used his own discretion to approve against the opposition of his underlings on reason of non-compliance.

The question that could arise from further cross examination of Alias will be:
Does Alias have a personal interest or probably is the hidden hands or even proxy shareholder in Jepak to smoothen payment from Ministry, but now conveniently blame it on Rosmah?
The new Chief Commissioner, Dato Azam Baki may find his first big fish of a KSU kantoi (caught) in court.

Seriously speaking, the Saidi character, or his business partner or accomplice are not that smart and clever to plan out the whole scheme. It is not believable for them to know what was happening deep in the interiors of Sarawak. There must be some big fish masterminding the "robbery on the poor people" exegarated by Sarawak Report as hundreds of millions scam

Alias became sec-gen of MoE in 2016 and retired in 2018. In street lingo, it could be his last kopek untuk pencen (last crack to amass a healthy retirement fund). It means, if Alias is the real culprit, then Rosmah and all implicated including Saidi and Rizal are innocent and free to go.

KSU suspiciously corrupt, Gopal Sri Ram obviously wicked

Continuing last night's posting targeted aimed at former KSU of Ministry of Education, Dato Seri Alias Ahmad, Malaysiakini live report saw the KSU accused as corrupt by defense lawyer, Dato Akberdin Abdul Kadir. Extract below
Bukan saksi yang dibicarakan - Hakim tegur peguam bela

10.21 pagi - Hakim Mahkamah Tinggi Kuala Lumpur Mohamed Zaini Mazlan menegur peguam bela kerana mengasak saksi dan menuduh bekas KSU Kementerian Pendidikan Alias Ahmad sebagai 'korup.'

Ini terjadi apabila peguam Rosmah Mansor Akberdin Abdul Kader menuduh Alias mempunyai kepentingan dalam projek hibrid solar.

"Saya kata pada kamu, ambil inisitatif sampai telefon lepas surat penolakan beliau, sebab datuk ada vested interest dalam projek ni...," kata Akberdin.

Bagaimanapun, Alias membalas, "tidak setuju."

Pada ketika ini, hakim Zaini menegur Akberedin.

"Beliau bukan orang yang sedang dibicarakan," katanya.
No protest from the DPP.

Akberdin: Kita jangan confusekan mahkamah...

Alias: Payment ini bukan untuk solar hybrid. Untuk genset. Tak pernah dibayar satu sen pun untuk solar hybrid.
This attracted immediate reactions on the social media:

It is the talk among lawyers and the within the corridor of power that Dato Seri Gopal Sri Ram is acting for Tun Dr Mahathir as the lawyer orchestrating the lawsuits against Dato Najib, Datin Rosmah, Dato Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Ku Nan, and all the political prosecutions against UMNO leaders.

None of the charges have stick. Gopal and his bosses are wicked humans.

Contract not secured and payment not received. MoF official not entertain Rosmah's lobby or Najib's request for urgency. Where is the beef?

Whose money did the claim bribe paid came from?

After recess, it continued:

Pembelaan tuduh bekas KSU tunjuk minat projek lebih dari kontraktor

12.15 tengah hari - Peguam bela Rosmah Mansor, Akberdin Abdul Kader sekali lagi mengasak saksi pendakwaan Alias Ahmad mengenai kepentingan Kementerian Pendidikan dalam projek hibrid solar.

Hakim Mohamed Zaini Mazlan protested the insinuation made against the KSU and to keep the question limited to allegations against his client. Rather routine caution in any typical courtroom.

Court to resume on April 6th. Akberdin need at least two more hours with Alias.

THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL
By ABBA

I don't want to talk
About the things we've gone through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history
I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
That's her destiny

I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking I'd be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules

The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
It's simple and it's plain
Why should I complain

But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you?
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name?
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say? Rules must be obeyed

The judges will decide (They decide)
The likes of me abide (We abide)
Spectators of the show (Of the show)
Always staying low (Staying low)
The game is on again (On again)
A lover or a friend (Or a friend)
A big thing or a small (Big or small)
The winner takes it all (Takes it all)

Collection of reflections on Covid 19

Since the last posting of merely a Musical Interlude on March 14th, it had been a long hiatus, psychologically and physically.

Malaysia was then in the midst of a leadership change. What need expressed of the underlying politics was written months ahead, if not a year. The song title was approprite for that moment in time.

Constrained by a stiff Teres Major muscle to add to the woes of other existing muscular discomfort, we resigned to be mere audience.

Events unfolded that led to Tan Sri Muhyiddin sworn in as Prime Minister on Monday, March 2nd and the beginning of Movement Control Order on March 18th.

Earlier over dinner at Bukit Bintang on March 16th, MCO was announced. No doubt it was necessary, in fact overdue, but the worry then was the economic impact.

Dato Najib was one of the earliest notable voices to suggest government to spend and assist rakyat, especially B49 and 60% of population earning daily wages.

Without hesitation, he said, cash is king.

As of yesterday, indications are looking positive. MCO is on its last phase till May 12. College students will soon be allowed to "balik kampong".

It will eventually be time to grasp and address the economic fallout.

Before getting into the hard issues, it is an  appropriate time to be reminded of the self-reflections many undergone through the Covid pandemic.

It serves to put us on the right moral and ethical path as one ready to face life and challenges of the "new normal" ahead.

It was a frightful situation and still is for many countries, even developed western countries such as US, UK, Italy, Sweden and France.

The deadly virus denied us much that was taken for granted and on being denied, only did we realised.

There are many out there being denied everyday...

For us Muslims, we have to question ourselves:

The denial of something so sacred should open our eyes and heart...

The relevant little things...

The larger sins of corruption ...

Sins condemned by Allah...

Everyday sins...

Yet, the neglected prayed for us all...

For Malaysians, there is hope...

The isolation could be much needed for humanity to heal itself.

May God bless humanity with another chance to the right and true path ahead ...

Hmm, hmm

Wake up and smell the coffee
Is your cup half full or empty?
When we talk, you say it softly
But I love it when you're awfully quiet
Hmm, hmm quiet
Hmm, hmm

You see a piece of paper
Could be a little greater
Show me what you could make her
You'll never know until you try it
Hmm, hmm

And you don't have to keep it quiet
And I know it makes you nervous
But I promise you, it's worth it
To show 'em everything you kept inside
Don't hide, don't hide
Too shy to say, but I hope you stay
Don't hide away

Come out and play
Look up, out of your window
See snow, won't let it in though
Leave home, feel the wind blow…

"Din Gila" calls AKJ's patriot, national hero a 'Kerbau Gila'

They were Mahathir's former dynamic duo and mischief makers to destabilise Dato Najib's government using the 1MDB debacle.

Both Dato Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Tun Dr Mahathir's former Political Secretary and lawyer Matthias Chang went on a whirlwind tour of financial centers to make report to the various enforcement authorities.

In the latest incident, both are not seeing eye to eye. Khairuddin hit back Matthias Chang, who for many months have been critical of Dr Mahathir and is supportive of Tan Sri Muhyiddin.

He called Matthias in his Facebook a Kerbau Gila (Mad Buffalo).

Mad Buffalo

Tun dr mahathir mohamad macam tuhannya!!

Ikhkas dari;
KHAIRUDDIN ABU HASSAN

This the same Matthias that the still eluded of Tan Sriship, Dato Kadir Jasin conferred as patriot and peoples' hero in 2016.

Mahathir send for 'Luga Brassi'

It was only months ago, during the power shift to the informal coalition, Perikatan Nasional, Khairuddin told Mahathir to not waste any further time with Pakatan Harapan.

Khairuddin, or Din Gila, nicname his former ITM mates would call, had always been used by Mahathir as proxy to hit at Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He was the runner to initially gather the different political parties to involve in congress now mimicked as Kongress (Mahathir) Baruahkan Melayu.

It was Mahathir's move to throw DAP out of government, block Anwar and put together a Malay-Muslim dominant coalition to control government.

He subsequently had a change of mind at behest of daughter, Marina and resigned on realising majority of PPBM's MPT wanted out of PH.

It was also Khairuddin that was sent to talk and negotiate.

Since PN came to power, words are he placed his eggs in Azmin Ali. The old man and family hardly takes care of the welfare of his men.

Khairuddin's attack of Matthias proves he has not severed ties.

Matthias has become unbearable for the old man that he need send for his Luga Brassi, hitman character from movie classic, Godfather.

Matthias responded

In his considered brief response, Matthias dished back:

Dear Good People (MP)

My former cellmate in SUNGAI BULOH prison Khairuddin Abu Hassan has come to the defence of Tun M and criticised my open criticism of the rubbish that Tun has spewed recently about the RIZA AZIZ case,  implying that the present govt was responsible for the mess,  when all the relevant figures in the drama were appointed by Tun M himself.

And the mess was started in November 2019 when the PH regime was in power and Tun was PM. I have said enough and have no wish to revisit the issues. It is crystal clear.

Tun was a pathetic figure in parliament listening to the exposure of his arrogance by the AGONG in the most dignified manner as the Office of the King exemplifies. But,  Khairuddin by his infantile criticism of me shows his own arrogance and refusal to adhere to the subtle reprimand by Agong of Tun and all those still aligned to him,  a miniscule band of a handful.

Sad,  very sad that they have fallen so far down the gutter.

Khairuddin is a minor actor of no consequence. He is an example of a deranged man without principles supporting his Boss regardless whether the Boss is right or wrong and has betrayed the country and undermined the office of the Agong.

This is the problem in our country.  Blind loyalty to any leader regardless of the wrong doings and are bad examples to the country in the same vein as Najib.

I need to expose one critical thing about this false loyal cadre of Tun. He is pretender and has only his self interest at heart and motivated only by the lust for power.

Why??

If he is loyal to Tun,  why did he not remain a member of Bersatu???

He resigned as a member and joined AMANAH because HE HATED THE GUTS OF TAN SRI MUYHIDDIN AND COMPLAINED INCESSANTLY ABOUT TSMY WAY BEFORE MAY 9TH, 2018. THIS KHAIRUDDIN SCUMBAG wanted to hold high office in Bersatu and imagined his ambition was blocked by TSMY.  Since,  he could not get his way and Tun M could not afford to split with TSMY,  this idiot of a so-called loyalist left Bersatu in a huff and joined Anamah.  But,  behaves as a "member" of Bersatu.  A scoundrel!

This is the kind of man who only wanted power. Many people have helped him financially and otherwise even when the rakyat REJECTED HIM as a candidate in the last Election.  His case,  challenging his defeat in the Elections Court was dismissed and so was his Appeal. Thereafter,  his behaviour was one of ingratitude.

He was told in front of me, and other witnesses that his Boss Tun told two of the witnesses who helped in the court proceedings that, Tun was not interested pursuing the criminal case against Najib,  now that Najib has been disposed as PM and Tun has taken power and that it is up to others to proceed against Najib. One of the person who was told of this by Tun was Gopal Sri Ram.

Read Tan Sri Dzulkifli's tweet here

I was stunned. Khairuddin showed no emotions.

There is no need to name the other witnesses. Including Khairuddin there were five of us, four are from the legal fraternity, two judges,  two lawyers.

Is it any wonder that things are now happening.

But, this POLITICAL "barking dog" continue his power crazy way. That's the only game left in town to play.  He is now totally irrelevant.

I pity this man. I have no wish to say the TRUTH about this man. If Khairuddin continues,  then maybe Truth needs to be told.

As the saying goes only SHYLOCK needs a pound of flesh of his enemies. He should read up on Shakespeare to learn the lessons, if he is unfamiliar with this tragic play.

He is suffering from power derangement and he is a mental case if there was one.

Need I say more.  Disgust is an understatement.  The hypocrisy displayed thus far is so damning but the actors addicted to power refuse to acknowledge this abomination.

Matthias

End of a partnership

Court does not allow pictures taken, but it was found on Google

It looks to be the end of partnetship.

Both were detained and charged under SOSMA for their worldwide reports made on 1MDB on the pretext of economic security threat.

Subsequently, court released them both for insufficient compliance to legal technicalities.

The investigation on 1MDB was done during Najib's administration, but Najib was exonerated. It was only under PH government that AG office, MACC went on charging spree.

In the latest, Najib's stepson and Rosmah's son from a previous marriage, Rizal Aziz who came to a settlement with DOJ, came to settlement on the criminal charge levied here.

The "pleabargain" (though certain legal opinions by commentators Gopal Raj Kumar and Salahuddin technically questioned as admittance of guilt) upset Tun Dr Mahathir.

However, it was done with Tan Sri Tommy's Thomas consent. He denied vehemently but AGC insider claimed he is forgetful.

He could be briefed in the morning to later in the evening claim he was not informed. Piles of unattended request letters for case devision unattended.

Current AG and formerly senior Federal Court judge, Tan Sri Idrus Haron's knowledge, experiance and integrity is significantly far exceed Tommy.

Idrus's words more trustworthy.

Tommy may have forgotten what he had signed and agreed beyond Mutual Legal Assistance with the concurrent of Dr Mahathir with DOJ. Otherwise, why did a DOJ officer believed to be by the name of Karen came to KL to brief Council of Judges on forfeiture law?

If Tommy have consciencously forgotten or turn senile, then it would be unfair to accuse him of complicit.

According to source from within AGC, Tommy had...
"privately admitted to a group of DPPs that they were gonna lose the forfeiture case against Najib UMNO. There was no real predicate offence which existed which would allow the AMLA charges to stand. Any criminal lawyer could tell u that the charges against Riza were not strong. Flimsy at best".
Mahathir is now worried his lies and slanders will be blown out into the public and shredded to pieces to be thrown over his grave.

He had son Mukhriz to make the unimaginable claim that it is Najib is the protagonist (meant to be antagonist) behind his second downfall in Kedah.

Never about his failure, aloofness and indifference to the job.

Mukhriz resigned, instead of the legitimate way via state assembly as his officer and former blogger McTheory, Hafiz Azmi claimed, for fear of being left with only a single support.

Mahathir's motion for a vote of no confidence in Parliament and Mukhriz's remark are the family in fear and on self preservation mode.

"Me, Guan Eng and Kit Siang; We are all one" PLUS Titijaya Berhad

It was on February 8th, 2019, that this blog put up a posting,"Tommy Thomas allegedly said, "Me, Guan Eng and Kit Siang; We are all one""

In a revelation by FMT, Tommy and Lim Guan Eng are one again.

The report entitled, Ex-AG agreed to Guan Eng’s request to unlock tycoon’s money despite only 12% return of 1MDB funds, is self explanatory.

The sequel to the original posting had to wait 16 months. To gloat a bit, this is the problem with being too far sighted.

Since the fall of PH government, public and social media have been demanding on MACC, police and Attorney General Office to initiate investigation on the wrongdoings of former AC, Tan Sri Tommy Thomas.

The most frequent demand is to reopen the Guan Eng corruption case AGwithdrew.

It was made at the stage the case reached Prima Facie and Guan Eng is to be called for defense.

Strangely, the judge gave a full acquital. The Chief Justice then was Tan Sri Richard Malanjun.

Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad, who was a DPP involved with the case then, commented recently.

Titijaya

Again today, Dzulkifli tweeted to question what is special with the property tycoon that Guan Eng could write in formally to Tommy to request release of his money?

There are not many individuals or tycoons in the list of alleged recipients of money traced to 1MDB.

The property tycoon can only be one Tan Sri Lim Soon Peng.

A quick google leads the entrepreneur to the property group Titijaya and its listed vehicle Titijaya Land Berhad (Titijaya Berhad).

Apparently, he has swicthed political allegiance from Dato Najib Tun Abdul Razak to Lim Guan Eng.

Its quite typical of businessmen.

Abuse of power

It is looking to be abuse of power for clan kinship. A Lim helping another Lim.

It proves that Tommy, Guan Eng and Kit Siang together with Tony Pua are all one.

Tommy made a promise on the first day first he took office to ensure separation of powers.

PH promised Rule of Law but in practise, they ruled by their own law. He admitted being a political appointee and appointment made by Tun Dr Mahathir for the PH government.

More of the exploits of the Lims, poodle Pua and Tommy will be revealed.

MACC has confirmed the expose by FMT and the investigation details involving four accounts were leaked to a politician.

They confirmed Tommy instructed MACC to release the money.

Guan Eng requested Tommy to release the frozen funds which has not amounted to alleged RM4 million from 1MDB sources.

While other UMNO leaders had their accounts frozen and Tan Sri Shahrir Samad and Dato Ahmad Maslan threatened with compound and legal charge, tycoon Lim got to keep the money.

Questions that must be asked here, how come Finance Minister interfered with AGC work?

Anwar was charged and found guilty of abuse of power when he instructed the police to investigate the 40 Dalil book. So LGE has to be charged for abuse of power soon.

More questions: Why did the FM asked the AG to do so? What for? What did the FM gain from the tycoon, for doing this favor?

Waiting for time

Tommy was under firing recently for attempting to tell the truth and trying to absolve the responsibilty of settlement with Riza Aziz (to be discussed in another posting).

He may escaped some of the abuse of power he commited under guise of AG's legal disgression but any one in the list could catch up on him.

For Guan Eng, its Deja Vu. If not this one, there is still the tunnel case.

Guess he desperately needs the much psyched return of the PH government to yet again escape the courts and possibly prison.

Not sure whether the news has reached the market but the Titijaya shares prices have not been doing well at around 25 to 26 sens today.

What will happen tomorrow when this post viral.

MACC could apply to freeze the public company and other Titijaya group of companies' accounts.

Property market is taking a hit from the economic downturn from Covid 19 pandemic. And, the hits will keep coming for Titijaya.

No father and son please

Sorry to spoil the party.

The last time UMNO had a father and son holding elected office was from 1986 to 1993. The son was two term MP for Batu Berendam (1986-1994), Tamrin Ghaffar. While, the father was then Deputy Prime Minister (1986-93), Tun Ghaffar Baba.

Since then, there have been no such situation being together in Parliament. Not even the case of father in Parliament or son in a state assemblymen. Perhaps, an appointed State Speaker and wife elected as state assemblymen. Still no two elected official.

UMNO used to do an internal program with the tagline "Keluarga Ku Ahli UMNO". And, it is common for whole family to be actively involved at branch or division level. But, no more of father and son running for public office at the same time.

Dato Najib's son shouldn't run for the vacant Chini state seat.

Suitable candidate no doubt

Pro-UMNO bloggers and netizens are giving strong support to Dato Najib's eldest, Dato Nizar Najib to fill up the Chini's vacant state assembly seat. It is obvious to the coverage given Nizar doing field inspection as office bearer before any election.

If chosen as candidate, Nizar is no parachute. He went through the mill to move up the ranks in the youth wing from branch to division and to his current position as Youth Leader for UMNO Pekan Division.

Nizar followed his father's footstep to study at Nottingham University and took up the same course in Industry Economics. Unlike Dato Najib who went into politics early following the sudden death of his father, the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, Nizar had a corporate experience and quite a successful one.

Nizar is a pleasant character and carried himself well. Despite his blue blood pedigree, he is socially adaptable to the UMNO crowd.

More so, his late mother-in-law is the renown Iron Lady and former Wanita Chief of UMNO Jerlun Division and Kedah state UMNO, Dato Maznah Hamid. His mother is related to Tengku Tan Sri Ahmad Rithauddeen Ismail. Nizar has UMNO blood running from both sides of his family.

Nizar has been accepted by the folks in Pekan. Judging by the pictures of his field visit circulating on social media, he is received well by the kampong folks.

In many ways, he is a dream team candidate. If PKR genuinely not running in Chini and not bank rolling an independent candidate, Nizar could emulate his father's first election to win without contest.

Dilemma

Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin, Youth Chief for Titiwangsa, the Youth Chief when Nizar was Youth Division Treasurer for Titwangsa, and close friend worked hard to lobby for Nizar.

Nazir may have received the support of Dato Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's eldest daughter, Datuk Nurulhidayah @ Kak Long. Otherwise, how would he be seen receiving Najib, and Nazir at Zahid's home recently.

The press speculated Najib and Zahid were discussing general election plan. Even Dato Kadir Jasin was taken by Zahid's diversionary tweeter message with his spin meant to insulate Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

More likely than not, it is a Division Leader paying respect to his party President and the conversation was on Chini by-election preparation. Nizar was present in his capacity as Youth Leader.

Dato Tajuddin Rahman gave a statement of support for Nizar, but it is not likely in the topic of conversation for dinner. Najib would not be comfortable to lobby for his son to Zahid. He is aware as to not emulate his old friend, Tamrin.

For many years, UMNO have been campaigning and criticising its political opponent as Parti Anak Beranak (family political party).

There is Anwar Ibrahim, Wan Azizah and Nurul Izzah. Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng. Late Karpal Singh and his sons, Gobind, Ram Karpal and Jagjeet Singh. Allahyarham Nik Aziz and son Nik Abduh. Latest being Mahathir and son Mukhriz.

Zahid is quite aware and not comfortable to select Nizar. However, he could not say so as to ambil hati (take account) of Najib's sentiment.

On the contrary, Najib could not say no and be seen in the way of his eldest political career. He has to ambil hati Nizar's feeling. Those overwhelmed by Nizar would end up blaming the stepmother, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

No DUN seat in Titiwangsa

Najib is the Division Chief and Member of Parliament thus it is improper to have his son as candidate and by all probability, elected for the vacant state seat in his father's Parliamentary constituency.

What would the other local aspirants say?

If it had been a state seat in Titiwangsa, Nizar's former division, he could be given due consideration. Unfortunately, Titiwangsa is in Federal Territory thus has no state seat.

If Nizar were to run and got elected, opposition and even opponent within UMNO would use it against Najib to blame for practising nepotism. Kadir Jasin would be in his element.

All along it was Mahathir that was rampantly practicing KKN, acronym for korupsi, kronisma dan nepotisma. Mahathir used to claim Mukhriz was only allowed to join politics after he retired. No one raised Mokhzani was Treasurer of UMNO Youth during Mahathir's premiership.

Even if Nizar was asked to wait out till the time comes to replace his father, he still has to face accusation of dynasty politics. From Grandfather to father and later on to him. However, it is likely to be acceptable.

The suggestion to have Nizar as candidate may have insidious intention. It could be to instigate local sentiment against Dato Najib for denying locals to be candidate.

Subsequently, some unknown hands could be trying to pressure Najib to quit politics and replaced by his son.

One major negative against Nizar is that he is not local but KL-based. He is of urban temperament and not sufficiently familiar with settlers' life. Its the reason state assemblymen should ideally be local based as they have to deal with day-to-day affair of the constituency.

There could be locals wanting Nizar as state assemblymen for the intention to fleece him financially. If he is unable to meet their expectation, it will end up as burden to Najib.

This is the realpolitik urbanites like Nizar may not realise of rural constituency and could be taken for a ride.

Open letter to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad

Dear Tun,

There’s nothing that I say that will come as a surprise to you for you have heard it all, seen it all, and done it all before. But I feel compelled to share some thoughts with you with the hope that you can show me the flaw in my arguments.

I refer to your recent reported attempts to pass a vote of no confidence in Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and to your continuing attempts to unseat him as Prime Minister.

Let’s go back a little to May 2018.  That was the year of the 14th general election. Pakatan Harapan claimed its legitimate victory and you were its choice for Prime Minister.

But a sizable number of people, for one reason or another, did not cast their vote and nor did they vote for you or Pakatan Harapan. Yet, they accepted the outcome of that GE and moved on with their lives.

That’s the democracy that we practice.

But two years later, the PH government reneged on its pre-election promises.  Despite the broken promises, no one, not even the people who voted for your party, demanded fresh elections.

They accepted the fact that PH was still the legitimate government and they were willing to wait till it was time again to go to the polling stations.

Their only wish was that, in the meantime, the PH Government will govern and govern justly.

That’s the system of democracy we cherish.

Then you resigned.

Neither the people nor the parliament passed a vote of no confidence in you, but for whatever reason, you threw in the towel.  Your resignation created a vacuum, and that vacuum had to be filled out of necessity. Politics like nature abhors a vacuum.

The people needed a Government, and political stability.

And in keeping with his duties, the Yang Dipertuan Agong stepped in and appointed you as the Interim Prime Minister. Acting responsibly and in complying with due process in such a situation, the Yang Dipertuan Agong appointed Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as his Prime Minister.

That is how our parliamentary democratic process works.

Pakatan Nasional has been governing now (and I must say quite well) for several months, despite the very challenging times brought on by the pandemic and your continued attempts at disrupting the business of government.

You now wish to topple Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin? Why?

Toppling a duly appointed government in circumstances of your own making is not the people’s wish. They appear willing to wait till the next elections are held to exercise their collective will.

In doing what you are doing by frustrating a legitimate government in the exercise of its functions and obligations, aren’t you usurping the people’s rights?

The people did not give you the mandate to decide for them who should form the government of the day. They cast their votes and decided in MY 2018 what they wanted.

Notably for someone hiding behind the politics of consensus in government, you did not seek or secure the people’s views before deciding to quit as Prime Minister.

You were elected to fulfill the people’s wishes for the full term of your mandate in government. Your mandate was not to thwart or frustrate their wishes or to disrupt any government.

If you wish to have another chance at leading the govt (after two chances), then why not wait for the next general elections in which you will have a fair opportunity to have what you still claim as your mandate, to be tested by popular vote.

That is what a true democracy is about.

Don’t frustrate, obfuscate the people’s choice, wishes, hopes, against their will. That’s undemocratic.

Points media failed to pick up from Ali Hamsa's cross-examination

$

The attention of the court proceeding on Tuesday, June 16th 2020 was on Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa's denial of pressuring for amendment of the 1MDB Audit Report and meeting's discussion on certain clauses in the report. MMO and Edge highlighted his opinion on the unethical taping of the meeting.

Social media was focused on DPP under fiat, Dato Gopal Sri Ram for application to change again charges using excuse of typographical error. Gopal's case kantoifor charging wrongly and he was to amend the charge. It's unfair for the accused, BH reported.

However, there was interesting points raised in the exchanges of question and answers during cross examination of Ali by defense counsel, Tan Sri Muhamamd Shafee Abdullah not highlighted by both mainstream and social media.

Read below:

Shafee:But underlying all that would you agree with me either all or many Prime Ministers have set honourable targets to achieve. Whether they achieve it or not is another set of story.

Ali:Yes, correct.

Shafee:Now, Tan Sri, you would agree with some of these targets set by various Prime Ministers, DSN is not an exception, there have been occasions where some of these targets failed miserably. For instance, let me give you an example. We have the Bank Bumi scandal at one time. It wasn’t the intention of the Prime Minister at that time, but it happened. You agree with me?

Ali:Yes, Yang Arif.

Shafee:That would be under which Prime Minister? Not that we are blaming a Prime Minister but it's just under some Prime Minister ya. Who was it? Bank Bumi Scandal was quite a big one, that’s why I chose it.

Ali:That was during Tun Mahathir’s era.

Shafee:I see. Then, we have, it became an enquiry that the Forex problem where the allegations of losses of billions. Correct?

Ali:Yes, Yang Arif.

Shafee:Correct? Okay now, you also agree that whatever is the Forex problem, the overriding intention is perhaps very good. You agree with me?

Ali: That’s what I read from the report, Your Honour. Yes.

Shafee:Yes, from your knowledge being the top public servant.

Ali:Yes, Your Honour.

Shafee:The intention may very well have been good but somebody didn’t execute it well. Yes?

Ali:Yes.

Shafee:One more example, perhaps a lot more earlier there was a lot of talk about Malaysia trying to conquer the world tin market. Quite some time ago, when you and I were in the University in the same year. Now, that too, the intention was good for Malaysia to conquer the tin market, but it failed miserably. You agree?

Ali:I agree.

Shafee:Now, you agree with me Tan Sri, while the Prime Minister set broad policies at macro level, the execution of these policies were to be taken by executive at a micro level?

Ali:Agreed, Your Honour.

Shafee:Tan Sri, various KP of MACC had been lawyers before, some illustrious name I can give to you like for instance the late Tan Sri Harun Hashim, a very eminent High Court judge who became the Federal Court judge subsequently but he was in fact in MACC? Correct?

Ali:Yes.

Shafee:Then you have a few candidates, they were all lawyers, government service lawyers, who were appointed to be Ketua Pengarah MACC, correct?

Ali:Yes.

Shafee:One was Zaki Hussein?

Ali:Yes.

Shafee:And there was Tan Sri Mahmud from Kelantan who subsequently became a judge, remember Tan Sri Mahmud?

Ali:Yes.

Shafee:There are many Tan Sri Mahmud but this is Tan Sri Mahmud who was in legal and judicial service. Alright, now, Dato Dzulkifli was a senior member of the AGC, is that correct?

Ali:Correct

Shafee:And you can't say that he is not qualified to be the KP of MACC, nobody can say that.

Ali: Yes nobody can say that.

Shafee:Nobody can say that because he is eminently qualified to hold the post, it's up to the PM?

Ali:Yes

Shafee:Another PM may do the reverse, may do another appointment. Correct?

Ali:Yes.

Shafee;Such as for instance, you can’t question Tun M appointing Latheefa Koya to be the MACC Chief. The most, what we called it, shocking news. But it is the prime minister's prerogative. Correct?

Ali: Yes.

Shafee:Can you say that Tun M has got an agenda in appointing Latheefa Koya?

Ali:Only he knows.

Shafee:That’s a good answer. Only he knows. Now, when you want to choose the AG, you agree with me AG must be someone at least very competent in the field of criminal law. If you want to take a private practitioner to be an AG, he has to be at least competent in the field of criminal law. Such as, perhaps Dato Seri Sri Ram, if he wants to take somebody from private practise, you agree with me? It's up to the PM.

Ali:Yes

Shafee:But the PM chose Tommy Thomas. That was his choice wasn’t it?

Ali:Yes

Shafee:Was Tommy Thomas someone who practiced in criminal law?

Ali:  I wouldn't know

Shafee:Nobody knows because he hasn’t done that. Now, that is the PM’s prerogative. You agree with me?

Ali:Yes.

Shafee:You can’t question. Now, the AG Tan Sri Apandi was appointed because or rather he was appointed when he was still the FC judge, one of the senior federal court judges who was invited to be the AG, you agree?

Ali:Yes

Shafee:And you agree Tan Sri Apandi was eminently qualified to be the AG?

Ali:Yes.

Shafee:Nobody can say he hasn’t done criminal law. He has walked through the field in criminal law, become the judge, magistrate and session court judge in all fields, you agree?

Ali: Agree

Shafee:Right. Now, you know there was an issue between the PM then with his Deputy who is now the current PM. We don't have to go into unnecessary guess work. Tan Sri, you have heard of what is ‘cabinet collective responsibility’, you have heard of the term?

Ali:Yes.

Shafee:You agree with me that cabinet collective responsibility means you can quarelly in the cabinet, debate in the cabinet “till the cows come home”, that’s alright because within the cabinet, because the cabinet papers are top secret, but once the cabinet arrived at the decision by majority of anonymous, every cabinet members collectively must hold to that decision. You can’t roar outside and say that is stupid decision, I put my objection but they nevertheless carried, you can’t do that because that is against the westminster policy of collective responsibility, you agree?

Ali:Agree.
Under Tun Dr Mahathir, the Bank Bumi BMF and forex loss scandal happened. Failures of policy can be attributed to implementation at micromanagement level.

On appointing people to position, the power to appoint lies with the PM that he could appoint someone unqualified. The erson used as example was Latheefa Koya as MACC Chief Commissioner.

It was all on Mahathir.

RM15 million for independent to run against BN?

$

The nomination for the by-election of the vacant Chini state assembly seat will be tomorrow, June 20th.

Yesterday, BN announced their candidate as local son of a local Felda settler, 42 year old Mohd Sharim Mohd Zin.

PKR, Amanah and PH had a change of mind to announce not running. They cited the  Covid Corona as reason. The SOP for campaigning is quiet stringent.

The claim is probably true.

However, BN won the Chini seat at the GE14 with about 10,000 votes, PAS second with about 5,400 votes and PKR last at slightly more than 1,000 votes.

With BN and PAS together in the Muafakat Nasional coalition and PPBM officially giving support for BN, any opponent is in for a drubbing.

Chini is in Dato Najib's parliamentary constituency of Pekan.

His rising popularity and growing confidence from a fair hearing in court may have deterred potential opponent the embarassment of possibly losing their deposit.

Nevertheless, it is heard *eight nomination forms were taken at the Election Commission office. BN is confirmed to use the form for Mohd Sharim.

It means it is not going to be an uncontested win for BN. There is the possibility he is up against *seven independent candidates.

It did not come as a surprise and rumours are going around speculating Tun Dr Mahathir will be bankrolling a candidate.

If a figure of RM100 million is being talked about as incentive to entice an MP to jump across from Perikatan Nasional, an incentive of RM15 million was offered to run as candidate.

To-date, only two possible candidates known:

The others are not known, thus it is presumptous and an insult to presume someone of royal pedigree such as Tengku Dato Zainul Hisham to accept such money.

Mohamed Nazri is not known of his background.

Words making its round is a PPBM Pekan official will run as independent.

Nevertheless, it is premature to make such assumption. More so, the RM15 million rumour has not been confirmed.

A spouse to an UMNO Pekan division commented, "Why waste such money? They will lose. Might as well give them the money to belanja durian."

Independents' motivation to run at Chini mysterious

$
0
0

By 10 AM, only two independent candidates submitted the nomination forms purchaed from Election Commission office.

Though PPBM, and PH particularly PKR officially said they are not running, they may have placed proxies to run.

Why the need for proxies when these candidates could run using their own party platforms?

However, it is not quite so simple.

More so, the motivation for the two candidates to run and face the risk of losing their deposits in a BN stronghold and Dato' Najib home ground homegrown remains a mystery.

PPBM proxy

As expected independent Tengku Dato Hisham Zainal Tengku Hussin submitted his form to challenge BN candidate, Mohd Shahrim Mohd Zin.

Tengku Hisham is the Deputy Division Chief of PPBM Pekan. Since Secretary General Dato Hamzah Zainuddin announced PPBM official endorsement for BN candidate, Tengku Hisham could not use PPBM as platform.

With Tengku Hisham's candidacy, the other expected Pekan PPBM candidate, Dato Mohd Mazri withdrew.

PPBM is now divided between the official pro-Tan Sri Muhyiddin group and faction aligned to Tun Dr Mahathir (identified by recently blackened logo). The fair assumption is both Tengku Hisham and Mazri came from the black PPBM faction.

However, there were no visible black PPBM supporter at the nomination. Tengku Hisham received support from mixed race members of the local Muay Thai club.

Tengku Hisham is a member of the royal family. In Pahang, involvement of extended members of the royal family in politics is quite common.

It should carry much influence in the rural area, but sources claim he knows he cannot win and seek not to be embarassed with votes less than 50.

Motivation?

His motivation to run is puzzling. Does he has any message to convey by running?

Or is it merely providing the platform for Mahathir to chant his trademark "blame everything on Najib" in Pekan?

If there is no message to be conveyed, public should demand an answer beyond him exercising his democratic right.

To add to the intrigue, Tengku Hisham is close and casual to Pahang's Orang Besar Dato Shahbandar Najib Razak.

A source claim he had sought for Najib to officiate a Muay Thai event but it did not materialise due to the Covid Corona pandemic.

If Tengku Hisham reason to run is a mystery, the other independent candidate, Mohd Shukri bin Mohd Ramli is equally mysterious.

Shukri is known as the blogger Cucu Mat Kilau (CMK) and operator of blog and FB Pahang Online. He ran into trouble with the law back in 2007.

The Reformasi activist resigned from PKR in 2011 and seemed to hanging out with the Chegu Bard group. It does not jive for political pundits to presume him as proxy to PKR Chairman, Fuziah Salleh.

No plan to run

This is CMK's third attempt for public office. Initially, he told online media he cancelled plan to run in anticipation of a crowded poll.

The former UMNO Jengka 7 branch secretary was to run for the state seat Lepar in 2004 but gave way to PAS.

He ran under PR ticket in 2008 for another state seat at Kemayan to lose to BN candidate.

There were talk of him running for Pekan in 2013 but ended running for Semambau state and Indera Mahkota parliament for GE12 as independent to lose both.

Shukri could likely be a case of attention seeking syndrome. Nevertheless, since leaving PKR, he has position himself as a social activist and voice of the people.

He told Astro Awani his strength is his brevity to be the voice of the people. Royalty Tengku Hisham to claim to be the voice of the people.

Will the constituency of mostly Felda settlers and orang Asli village need their voices heard or problem need solving?

Its a cliche but in the rural constituency, it is usually nore important than only talk. Quite often than not, the promise to be the voice of the people are merely lip service.

Look at what happen to PH's 100 day promise and its long list of manifesto. Hardly serious to deliver.

They could be running because funding is available. Without money, no campaign could get going.

PM for 6 months: Survey and Another Open Letter

$

James Chai discussed the options available for PH Plus choice for PM candidate in a Malaysiakini article dated June 14, 2020.

Since then, DAP, Amanah, Warisan and Tun Dr Mahathir's expelled PPBM faction have announced their plan for Mahathir to be PM for 6 months and Dato Seri Anwar as Deputy PM.

The development create the perception PH Plus have the numbers and will win the vote of no confidence motion for July Parliamentary session to enable PH to return to power.

The puzzling question is....

Why 6 months? Will it actually be for 6 months?

In the meanwhile, Gopal Raj Kumar published another open letter to ponder into the reason why Mahathir wants to return for 6 month.

ANOTHER OPEN LETTER TO TUN DR MAHATHIR.
The news and social media are abuzz with stories about how you want to be Prime Minister again – for the third time. (No, for the fourth time, if you include the brief period when you were Interim Prime Minister). If you do succeed, you would be setting another world record. Syabas!
But the question uppermost in my mind is this: WHY? Why do you want to be Prime Minister for just six months?

Is it to finish your unfinished business like keeping all your pre-GE14 promises?

Come, come, Tun, you had since May 2018 to fulfill your pledges.  Do you think you can accomplish  in the next six months what you failed to do in the previous 20 ?

That’s unrealistic. And then perhaps, you wish to groom the next Prime Minister over the next six months?

Come, come, in 20 years you could not groom a suitable successor as you plotted against and caused their ignominious departure from public life. And now you wish to do it in half a year?

That’s unlikely to happen.

Or, do you wish to use the next six months to leave behind a lasting legacy? But you had 50 years since you wrote The Malay Dilemma to complete your hidden agenda. You  can’t now  do it in the next six years.
Or,

do you wish to leave something for your family? If so, Tun, please don’t bother. They are all well-settled. They have been taking very good care of themselves, thank you.

Or,

do you want to leave something for your friends? Why would you want to do that, especially when many of them have already abandoned you and jumped ship.

Or,

do you need six months to right your wrongs—ie destroying the judiciary, interfering with the civil service, etc. But how can you begin to undo these mistakes when you, as yet, have not acknowledged them as such?

Or,

Tun, do you want to use the next six months just to revisit your regrets ?

It’s too late for that too

In any case, Tun, it is too late to say you had never intended to be a Machiavallian.

It’s too late to undo your mistakes. It’s too late in the day for almost anything.

But it’s never too late for one thing: to say Sorry.

And it’s never too late to exit from politics and public life. It’s never too late to retire gracefully.

Gopal Raj Kumar FB
Now, what do readers think?

There is always the commentary blog.

The Unspinners blog is conducting a survey to find out public acceptance to Mahathir's third time return for 6 months HERE.

Readers could visit the site and just click YES or NO to the proposed idea.

Other surveys conducted leads to a resounding NO. Maybe this time it is different.

Winning the Malay heart

As far as this blogger is concern, the vote of confidence has a low chance of succeeding.

This is especially so with the possibility of many more MPs jumping ship to support Tan Sri Muhyiddin.

This plan of putting up Mahathir was mooted by DAP's Liew Chin Tong. As far as facing up to July Parliament, it seemed Chin Tong did not live up to his expectation as DAP's Political Strategist.

If one were to ponder a little bit on the possibility of Anwar being offerred as PM candidate for GE15, one could find the answer.

The next GE15 will be determined by the Malay wave. PN is being dubbed as Malay Pribumi government and the opposition already started using the racism narrative.

Anwar had recently questioned PH government use of the narrative "Melayu malas".

It is a tagline closely associated with colonial past and in contemporary politics, to Mahathir. And, not quite a veiled criticism of Mahathir in which PKR has confirmed their rejection of the Mahathir 3rd time PM plan.

Complimenting Mahathir's narrative, DAP and Council of Emminent Persons policies was to undertake wholesale removal of affirmative action programs and dismantling of institution dedicated to that agenda.

DAP and their Malay satellite party, Amanah plan now to use Mahathir to make in-roads into the Malay voters heart.

Notice DAP recruiting pretty Malay lass and lads to reach out to Malay new voters. Lim Guan Eng and Tony Pua have been heard piling a war chest to buy the Malay heart.

Deja vu, Cash is king.

For DAP and Amanah, Anwar will not serve the purpose. He is too soiled and associated with liberalism to have any appeal to non-PKR Malay diehard.

They need Mahathir for their survival. Anwar's yearning for PMship no more priority.

Not ruling out a deviation

One can plan but there could always be a deviation from the plan.

Muhyiddin may not secure substantial buffer for the stability of the PN government. Or the buffer gain come at too expensive financial or political pricetag.

PH Plus could be planning for snap GE15 but opportunity may come without the risk of being annihilated by Muafakat Nasional in the Malay hinterlamd during general election.

If the families of Dato Seri Azmin and Dato Hishamuddin Hussein Onn happen to bump into each other in Morocco before the Sheraton move, Azmin, Hisham and Mahathir happen to be in Langkawi over the same weekend.

UMNO grassroot view Azmin with a wary eye for his last minute political moves and demands. There are unhappy voices of him occupying Sri Satria and the Deputy PM wing of PMO.

Sources from within PAS have warned that Azmin is still in communication with the black PPBM faction. Already someone is testing the water with rumour of Mahathir meeting Tuan Guru Dato Haji Hadi and Azmin.

Azmin is seen as slow to open all his cards for PN. Perhaps, that is all he has.

One can view that Azmin and Hisham need to maintain their relevence in the future political configuration.

Another possibility is the Langkawi appearance is mere coincidence and its the pro-Tun people exploting it to apply pressure on Anwar.

Eff man... tak habis-habis politik. Focus on economy la, stupid!

SURVEY: To understand Mahathir, follow the money

$
0
0

Raja Petra Kamaruddin's latest video claimed money was the motivation for Tun Dr Mahathir to insist on being PM again for 6 months before passing over the position to Anwar.

The planned return will be upon winning the vote of no confidence for July Parliament seating.

Before reading further into this posting, go to the link HERE to vote YES or NO to DAP and AMANAH agreement to this suggestion.

A discussion on the matter can be found in the previous posting here. This posting is still related.

RPK's reason is Mahathir raised the bulk of PH's RM2.5 billion election bill for GE14.

The 2 year tenure as PM was initially to payback the money through contracts, privatisation and monopoly business licenses.

Unfortunately the economy was bad due to Lim Guan Eng's mismanagement and investors lack of confidence of PH government.

It resulted in Mahathir unable to recoup the money spent. He needs additional 6 months to get it back.

Though the question remained as to why Mahathir resigned then, there is logic to this political hypothesis.

When Mahathir was Interim PM for that brief moment, he announced a RM20 billion economic rescue package. Critics to the plan claimed it is no rescue package but projects for cronies.

Worse still, a source with high level contact in Government revealed the rescue package was all Mahathir's old recycle babies.

It was hardly a rescue plan to revive the economy.

Follow the money

This blog have repeatedly wrote that to understand Mahathir's politics, one should always "follow the money" and hound the latest business of interest to Mahathir.

It was in 2014 that this blogger developed doubt on Mahathir's bigger agenda and realised him covering up his greed for money.

We discovered new information behind issues he raised against government of Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in the bid to topple him.

For instance, Mahathir's argument for his planned crooked bridge to replace the Johor causeway to Singapore was erroneous.

The issue he raised against Singapore Air Force fighter jet intrusion into Malaysian airspace was dishonest. He knew of the defense arrangement with Singapore for use of air space.

The cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore on security matter is far closer than what is known in public and usually being politicised.

The low price of water sold to Singapore was his doing and yet he blamed it on Abdullah.

Anything to do with this second generation Kerala Mahathir will usually be motivated with money.

When Mahathir was attacked for IPP, we seek to his staff for material. There was reluctance. The staff murmered of pointless effort as opposition and opponents will keep using it against him.

By end January, words reached yours truly of a secret meeting between Mahathir and Azmin Ali in London for the Christmas holiday.

Government sources claimed it was a family gathering but we laughed it it off as the Ali family have been in a family fued for decades.

When Mahathir's staff and confidante was asked of the meeting, the reply given was he was willing to talk to anyone to discuss the Malay problems. What a cliche!

It was followed up by a question why Mahathir did not do follow-up on the improper merger between ECM Libra and government owned Avenue Asset involving Khairy Jamaluddin and Dato Kalimullah Hassan.

He replied, "Don't you know we brought down Pak Lah not because of ECM Libra and corruption, but because of jambatan bengkok and double tracking?"

It was all about money, not the narrative behind his political move to bring down a Prime Minister.

It created the doubt that he could not overcome to convince us in the April 10, 2015 meeting to support his seven reasons to bring down Najib.

The just terminated TV3 news Managing Editor, Firdaus Abdullah was in the meeting. Recording of the meeting is also available.

Failed political prosecution

Syukran, Allah had given us the hidayah to lead us to the truth. Unfortunately, our friend, Matthias Chang only recently realised he was made use of by Mahathir.

Mahathir's politics for politics sake to bring down Najib couldn't care less of the subsequent legal proceeding.

He left it purely to Dato Gopal Sri Ram to fix his victims. There was no sincerity to pursue justice or eradicate corruption, cronyism and nepotism.

His hypocrasy was too blatant.

Only now he is worried that Gopal and Tommy Thomas were not up to it to secure a conviction in any fair trial on the 1MDB-related cases against Najib and UMNO politicians he intend to terminate.

Court ruled for UMNO's money to be released. All AMLA cases against recipeints of alleged 1MDB money bombed out. Mahathir's nervousness is visibly obvious when Riza Aziz's settlement was  announced.

His immediate reaction was to do a political spin to paint a picture the settlement was a plea bargain and admittance of guilt. Riza merely agreed to pay compound. It was not plea bargain because trial has not started.

It is a legal situation a former judge described as nolle prosequi. Prosecution couldn't proceed. The reasons will be discussed on a later posting.

Yesterday, Mahathir put up a sequel, Plea Bargain II to the earlier blog posting, Plea Bargain. This time he used the layman political argument of chicken thief being imprisoned when found guilty, but kleptocrats of hundreds of millions could escape judgement.

The answer is simple.

Petai (stinky beans) and chicken thieves were found guilty without doubt by the court, but Riza is not. It is the reason Mahathir is spinning using plea bargain, a non-existence legal practise in Malaysia.

Mahathir's appointed AG, Tommy Thomas and case designer and Mr Fixer, Gopal failed to secure any proofs. A court insider e-mailed us the following reply to his latest posting:
Tun M, why are you whining so much.  This is old news don’t you have anything else to say.

You are boring, people are yawning reading your nonsense.
But since we are on the topic, perhaps your irritation is not the fact that Riza Aziz has been granted a DNAA but rather with the fact that it was the Attorney General Tommy Thomas, that you appointed who was in favour of granting him a DNAA on condition that certain assets be forfeited and a compound be paid.

Or perhaps it’s the fact that your buddy Dato’ Sri Gopal Sri Ram, the lead prosecutor appointed by your favourite AG –Tommy Thomas with your consent of course, who was also the lead prosecutor in Riza Aziz’s case, agreed to move the court for order for DNAA.

Tun M, you must be irritated because its your people who freed Riza.
On his rambling on money laundering, what is the effing predicate offense?

Without any primary crime established, AMLA charges are good for the rubbish dump.

AMLA should be applied for terrorism and organised crime. For criminal cases involving corruption, abuse of power and CBT, DPP should prove the act and not conveniently use AMLA. Ada faham old man?

1MDB issue was also about money to Mahathir.

It was his revenge for acquiring the IPP belonging to his IPP cronies. He also avenge Tan Sri Vincent Tan for Najib's refusal to his election donation in exchange for projects scheme.

And, Mahathir was also envious of Najib for being able to be close with China and Arab.

Failing faculties, Frigging soundbytes

Tun Dr Mahathir is renown for his ability to communicate in simple soundbytes and use it effectively to attack political opponents or to turn the table on their attack.

Quite often than not, it is not technically accurate. But it serve the purpose to convey the essence of his message.

These days, with his faculties failing and memory limitted to remembering the past but not recent events, he is frigging himself silly to think the simple soundbytes still works.

With supporters split and politically dependent on DAP, his past narratives are irrelevant today.

Frankly, it is pointless for him to even consider returning as PM for the third term. [Go to the survey by The Unspinners blog HERE to agree or disagree]

Hanif Khatri view DNAA prudent

Yesterday, this blog responded to Mahathir's Plea Bargain II blog posting yesterday.

Since he feared Dato Najib making a comeback and ridiculously claimed Tan Sri Sri Muhyiddin made bigger damage than Najib, he followed-up on Najib with an FB posting to repeat a similar line of logic entitled Stealing Chickens.

Mahathir's comment on Riza Aziz is the usual simplistic soundbyte, which only satisfy his intellectually shalow diehards. It is technically or more precisely, legally inaccurate.

The old tiger is no more as sharp. It hardly conveyed the desired message and does not attract sizeable followers.

Mahathir's own lawyer, Hanif Khatri said that Riza Aziz's settlememt is prudent. He should seek the advise of his lawyer before shooting his mouth.

Shot his own foot

There on, Mahathir shot his own foot to repeat a recycled claim he never gave government contract to his sons:

It confirmed his senses and faculties are failing. That sort of soundbytes does not have any more bite today, but yet he thinks it still work.

For one, people know it is not true. Secondly, there are people like yours truly familiar with this recycle argument and ever willing to give the answer.

Najib responded on FB, Menjawab Stealing Chickens by mentioning about MISC, Pantai Hospital, Fomema, Kencana, Opcom, NFCP, and Ascot Sports with the award letter to Opcom attached:

According to Tun Carlos.com, Najib FB's admin went to the extent of posting the response in its entirety on Mahathir's FB.

That attracted hundreds of comments against Mahathir and made his admin team defensive.

Despot fear of free speech

At 1 AM last night, The New Malaysian Times reported 500 of the 1,500 comments were removed and criticised Mahathir for curtailing freedom of speech in deleting and banning netizens’ comments.

That is Mahathir, the despot dictator that suppressed free press and speech, and now trying to make a comeback.

A leader unable to take charge of the national debate is no more relevant. More so, for leaders in fear of opposing views.

Like Mugabe, he will fail because he is no more relevant.

His 22 months messed up than Selamatkan Malaysia. Another 6 months will not serve any purpose but disrupt any chance of economic recovery.

Muhyiddin's and Najib's twist of fate

$

Malaysia's contemporary politics could be in the midst of a new phenomenon that is not positive for governance and country direction.

Past feud and camaraderie could be swept under the carpet to be held at bay to meet realpolitik objective of the day.

Pondering over political events of the past five years, it could set any thinking citizens to wonder whether any political alliance or/and narrative at any one time have any relevance to past or subsequent events. The rate of changes and turnaround in political leadership, alliance, stance and agenda is too swift.

From the day the first Corona Covid 19 virus set foot on Malaysian soil till the day it is put at bay, it will not be a surprise national leadership, ruling parties, political alliance and key government appointments could change hands several times.

The cycle of a politician's fate could change from peak to trough, back up to peak again and down to the trough within few years. It is unthinkable that millenium's culture have overwhelmed tradition and long held practices.

And, history and past relationship may still matter. Continuity between the past to the present and future remained essential for nation's stability

Fate intertwined

Over Sunday, Raja Petra Kamaruddin sent the following message:
The Chini by-election has been reduced to a Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad versus Muhyiddin Yassin contest. The outcome of the by-election can gauge how much support Mahathir has compared to Muhyiddin. If Mahathir's candidate gets slaughtered it will be a big blow for the old man.
Not sure how the public accepted his view, but even within UMNO, it is viewed as a Dato Najib show in which UMNO headquarter gave him full discretion to strategise and run the campaign.

It was RPK's cheeky way of running Mahathir down. BN is expected to win handsomely in this state assembly seat in Najib's Parliamentary constituency. The victory or defeat to BN will only be measured by the size of majority to BN's candidate, Mohd Sharim bin Mohd Zin.

However, RPK's view cannot be totally dispelled completely. Mahathir placed a proxy candidate in now expelled Deputy Division Leader of PPBM Pekan, Tengku Dato Zainul Hisham Tengku Hussein, a member of Pahang royal family. PPBM officially endorsed BN candidate and Secretary General, Dato Hamzah Zainuddin and few PPBM leaders came to campaign.

It is strange twist of fate that Muhyiddin's political fortune could be tied together with Najib in which in this same month of June four years ago, UMNO had him expelled from UMNO for covorting with Mahathir to topple Najib. He was only consequently deposed at the 14th general election in May 2018.

Challenging path

Muhyiddin was recently sworn in on March 1st, 2020 following Mahathir's unexpected and puzzling resignation on February 24th after refusing to lead the coalition of political parties and political factions known as Perikatan Nasional.

It is the stuff for a Hollywood political drama. Hopefully this time it is not Taek Jho Low raising the movie financing. It could certainly appeal to the action seeking Gen Y movie goers.

However, prior to 2016, their political rivalry between them were sober and boring. There were the usual competition in any political rivalry, but it never went further into a political quarrel.

When the Team Wawasan led by Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim contested for the 1993 party election, Muhyiddin came up in the pole position. In the subsequent election in the November 1996, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi came back into the line-up, Najib came first and Muhyiddin lost out.

There were bitterness among the supporters and few pointed their finger on Najib's unfair campaigning. Muhyiddin did complain of declining camaraderie but it ended as there were no opposition to him returning to cabinet unlike the political rivalry of Tun Musa and Tengku Razaleigh.

Muhyiddin was comfortable sitting in the audience for the next four years of UMNO General Assembly till his return back to the Vice Presidency in 2000.

Ever since 1996, Najib remained the first Vice President till he ascended to Deputy President in the 2004 party election, a year after Mahathir's first resignation as 22-year Prime Minister.

Pak Lah became UMNO President and Prime Minister till his resignation in 2009 following a dismal showing by BN for losing their customary two third majority in the 2008 election. He announced his exit plan for March 2009 in October 2008.

Last obstacle

Najib was identified as successor on the condition he wins the UMNO Presidency in March for which he won uncontested.

Muhyiddin's path was more difficult as he had to contest against the popular Tan Sri Ali Rustam, the recently appointed Governor of Melaka and former Selangor Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Muhamad Muhammad Taib.

Since losing the Vice Presidency in 1996, Muhyiddin return and defense of his Vice Presidency had never been plain sailing.

He almost lost it again in 2004 to thinly nipped pass Muhammad Taib on the last count of the Federal Territory ballot box to come out third. Tan Sri Isa Samad came first but was later forfeited on money politics allegation. Ali came second.

Through the years, Muhyiddin's boys kept blaming Najib's side for making it difficult. Muhyiddin problem was the dilution from the competition of other leaders from his home state of Johor like Tan Sri Gani Osman, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, and Tan Sri Sharir Samad.

Muhyiddin was too stingy with his smile.

Rafting on Najib

In 2008 party election, the Deputy Presidency was up for grab. It is widely believed that Pak Lah was bitter with Muhyiddin for doing Mahathir's bidding to pile the final push to pressure him into resignation.

Ali, seen as from Pak Lah's camp, was contesting for the post. Muhammad Taib contested too and he was seen as splitting Muhyiddin's block. It would have sealed Muhyiddin's political fate.

Against all odd, Najib made his preference for his friendly competitor, Muhyiddin for the choice of Deputy President and his Deputy Prime Minister. The public preference was for Muhyiddin but Ali was more accessible and popular with the UMNO division heads and grassroot than the stingy with his smile, Muhyiddin.

Ali's campaigners was caught from money politics. And Ali had to suffer the consequences. He was disqualified. It should be an easier path to beat Muhammad Taib but years later, Muhyiddin's boys admitted that it was not so and they won by riding on Najib's raft.

Common enemy

The rest is history including the Muhyiddin's attempt to do on to Najib as he did to Pak Lah for Mahathir's bidding using 1MDB as the basis. It failed and led to his dismissal. Come 2018, he came victorious and brought UMNO to its knees.

By a strange of fate, Muhyiddin and Najib is on the same side now. Though it is not so much for Chini by-election, they are together facing up to Mahathir's political onslaught and no holds barred bag of political tricks.

They may yet to exchange olive branch, but Najib have been supportive of Muhyiddin-led coalition government. His highly popular Facebook and much reported by media have been supportive and defending against Mahathir's attack.

During the Restricted Movement Order, when all attention on social media were on the endless twist and turn of the deposed Pakatan Harapn political drama, Najib begin his attack on Mahathir.

Sometime in mid-May, Najib criticised Mahathir for playing innocent to refuse PN Chairmanship by claiming he did not wish to betray the people. He piled up on Mahathir's remark he was used by the Malays for 22 years. And he exposed Mahathir's demand for a gambling license to be issued to Ascot Sports owned by Tan Sri Vincent Tan.

Najib has not relented with the latest series of exposure of government contracts and privatisation to Mahathir's millionaire and billionaire children. It may have contributed to Mahathir further downward spiral as his every political moves are blunted and hitting the brick wall.

On reflection, had it not for Mahathir's toxic tendency to pit leaders against each other and destabilising divide and rule. the competition between Najib and Muhyiddin would not have intensified into an intense rivalry.

Team Wawasan again?

They did not cross path in the early part of their political history.

Najib begin his political career to replace his late father in 1976 in Pekan. He became Pahang MB from 1982 to 1986 before beginning his career at the federal level as Deputy Minister.

Muhyiddin political path started from the divisional level in Pagoh level to move up in the state Youth movement to be Johor Youth Chief in from 1976 to 1982 and national exco member.

By 1984, he won the UMNO Pagoh Division head to beat the former Menteri Besar Tan Sri Osman Saat.

He remained MP for Pagoh ever since 1978 except for 1986 to 1995, in which he contested the Bukit Serampang state seat to be appointed Menteri Besar. He joined federal cabinet only in 1995.

Unlike Najib, Muhyiddin early entry into national level UMNO was patchy. He lost for a seat for the UMNO Supreme Council in 1984 to only get a seat later by appointment. His first attempt for Vice Presidency in 1990 also ended with a loss.

It was the 1993 Team Wawasan with Anwar, Najib and Muhammad Taib that brought a change of fate for Muhyiddin for a place in the national political elite.

Rumours going around that Anwar and PKR will give their support to Muhyiddin against Mahathir's motion for vote of no confidence in July Parliament seating. It could be Anwar avenging the betrayal by DAP and Amanah to Mahathir's persuasion.

Muhammad Taib is no more active, but Najib is still around and fighting. Muhyiddin is the current Prime Minister

There will always be the speculation that the rivalry will persist. But with Mahathir still at large, Najib and Muhyiddin have a common purpose and enemy.

Who knows, the reunited remaining members of Team Wawasan can be insurmountable for their old master and his old foe, Lim Kit Siang's DAP. That is realpolitik. It is unthinkable but do not dispelled such possibilities.

Post pandemic: Important leaders still not get it yet

Yesterday Health Ministry's Director General, Dato Noor Hisham Abdullah informed media that the latest positive infection is 3. The day earlier the press was elated when he mentioned one.

For few weeks, local cases of Corona Covid 19 virus infection have been on the minimal, and most of the reported cases are imported and involved foreigners.

The Sultan of Selangor gave an announcement that masjid can conduct Aidil Adha prayers. These developments are indicating the worse is over. Many felt the aftermath of the pandemic within weeks of the MCO but generally most will only come to term with it now.

It is time to face the task of handling the economic fallout that is being felt globally and restart the economy devastated by the sudden shrink in economic activity.

Malaysia have faced many economic crisis before, but the experience of the past may not be relevant today.

The Star dated March 30th quoted 70 year old Dato Mustapha Mohamed, newly appointed Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of economic planning claimed at least six months is needed for economy to recover and it is on condition of right strategy.

He said in a TV interview that tourism will be severely affected and effort is needed to intensify promotional effort.  SME is too many beyond government affordability to help all.

70 year-old Mustapha was returned to a position he once held.

FMT reported MIER Chairman, Prof Dr Kamal Salih describing Mustapha, Tengku Zafrul and Azmin Ali as a formidable team.

He was being diplomatic and doing PR to safeguard his business interest since he was a partner to the controversial former Economic Adviser to former Tun Dr Mahathir, Dr Muhammad Khalid.

To claim six months is needed, it means Mustapha doesn't get it.

Tengku Zafrol's experiance was as banker. A job hopper from one corporate job to another need familiarisation with public policies. His new job require he be critical of bankers and their lackadaisical attitude.

As MB of Selangor, Azmin was merely spending money saved by the stingy Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

If Kamal Salid bother to do background search, Azmin's degree is in Economics, but his Masters was education. His first and only job experience was several months as MRSM Terendak teacher. His real experience is politics and skillset is only political manovering.

As for 70 year-old Mustapha, his March 30th shows he is out of touch with the times and seemed unable to understand and gauge the impact of the pandemic Corona Covid 19.

The virus is still not well understood yet.

Contrary to claims by POTUS Donald Trump or other reports that certain countries found a vaccine, the testing may require few more years, and it is often for new vaccine to fail outside lab condition during testing.

In short, vaccine is still not available or other word, cure is not found.

Malaysians are elated and proud that our frontliner have address the pandemic well and with worldly acclaim.

A high percentage part of the infected ones have recovered. However, the recovery is still a trial and error effort and it was sheer luck.

As told by one frontliner involved, the recovery does not mean the virus have been eliminated from the body. Few weeks back Beijing had a second resurgence. It led to a 50 point drop on Bursa Malaysia.

The risk will always be there. It means life is not the same. Human daily behaviour will be completely transformed by the change in daily human activity. It means the already drastically changed economic activity will structurally change at macro level.

When 70-year old Mustapha recently said to The Star that tourism sector will receive the much-needed boost once Malaysia and Singapore open borders, many commentators privately texted to say Tok Pa still does not get it, lacks imagination and missed the time tunnel or Delorean car to be at the present and future.

Tourism is dead

There will be hardly any unpurposeful, unnecessary and leisure travel any more for many years to come.

Travelling will be only limited to domestic and nearby destination. No promotion can make people do long flights to see places for Puan Sris and Mak Datins to gloat to their gawking friends and underlings.

By the way, Singapore tourism is not sufficient and considered tourism. What is considered tourism will only be limited to local and regional travel.

There must be genuine need for travelling because health risk of the destination will be high on the consideration to travel.

On the other side, there is also the consideration that destined country may not accept traveler from certain origin as happen to Americans wishing to crossover to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Travel bubble still has health risk attached and will not work.

The usual tourism activities for rich and famous to shop for Louis Vuitton at Rodeo Drive while the not so could be there to gawk will be a thing of the past. Activities of low priority will not attract the interest it once enjoyed.

Reflection

The excesses of the past will not be as exciting anymore.

The pandemic have suddenly forced people to do self reflection and become more spiritual.

The moral dilemma in the seemingly inhumane actions taken during the stress of making decisions during the crisis are being discussed and reflected on.

John Authers, a business writer on financial markets, wrote an opinion piece in Bloomberg exploring morality and ethics with profound opening questions as below:
What is right and what is wrong? What can individuals expect from society, and what can society expect of them? Should others make sacrifices for me, and vice versa? Is it just to set economic limits to fighting a deadly disease?
Deep questions are being asked on human existence. The pandemic made significant Muslims in Malaysia come to the realisation that God could merely send air and the world could be in absolute disarray.

There are realisation that Covid 19 came about due to neglect and disrespect of mankind to god's order and the nature god bestowed on mankind

Change

For benefit of 70-year old Mustapha, this is not a new normal situation but abnormal situation that require deeper thoughts and not merely relying on doing copycat work from the effort and experience of others.

The way of travelling abroad and selective copycat is over. In the past, such development approach failed because it is not wholesome adoption of the positive attributes in work ethics, culture and the yearning for knowledge.

It was Mahathir's money in a hurry culture and be done what will be in the future.

Economic planning will not be the way 70-year old Mustapha is comfortable with the make out the world he believe and to impose on the lesser ones to carryout and do.

The time is over for top down planning. One has to listen to the people on the ground to identify problems and solution, opportunities and wasted efforts.

Putrajaya will think it is necessary to save the hotels and low cost hotels. The low cost hotels have never been of economic value creation, but mostly money laundering centres.

Bureacrats at the state capital may think reopening the duty free centre up north will help local traders. Without the Thai to sell cheap quality goods, it will only be free from visitors centre.

The way forwards need us to ask questions, think, and plan seriously. The country's interest must not be deviated away by politics, self serving businessmen, and glory seekers.

The strategic way forward for the country does not lies in the politically advantageous positions in finance, trade, home security, rural development and education, but higher education to harness the genuine brain power to identify needs, create opportunity, anticipate problems, envision trends and train, train, train the people.

By genuine brain power, it may not be in the manner most male Professors and Phd Dr pursuing positions to be VCs, Deans, Professors, and Head of Departments that attains positions by political alignment with activist groups like IKRAM or organisational politics to bodek and ampu politicians.

Tourism is only a small area, but it highlights the message that 70 year old Mustapha conventional ways of thinking is not the way forward.

The already 40 year old Gen Y too may be now fall to stereotyped thinking.

Other countries of lesser being than Malaysia in the past are fast grabbing opportunities, but people upstairs are too slow, too old and too late to react.

Post Pandemic: Spirituality to bring change

$

In the previous posting, Post-Pandemic: Important leaders still not get it yet, this blog concluded the opinion piece on post-Pandemic economic planning with the view that the task ahead in facing up to the new challenges of the nation is in education.

The likelihood is policymaker will be too focused on post Covid economic recovery that they missed out on a sudden change in human behaviour and attitude that will set a new social, economic and political order.

People are forced into self reflection and subsequently becoming more spiritual. This blogger underwent that phase in this April posting here. There could be greater consciousness for ethics and morality, compassion for humanity, and greater concern on past neglect and disrespect on nature and environment.

Higher education is expected upon to play the role to harness potential, identify needs, opportunity, problems and envision trends, and finally generate knowledge and train people. However, to achieve the desired result, the nation need to be done with the kiasu culture of money for money sake of 22 years and 22 months.

The nation need men and women of good character to carry out their role with sincerity and dedication. In spirituality lies the answer. Spirituality need be imbued into education and at the work place.

Many may have missed the following NST editorial in early 2020:

NST Leader: Education =iq,sq

January 23, 2020 @ 12:07am

If the aim is to shape the child as an integrated human being.NSTP/IQMAL HAQIM ROSMAN

TOMORROW the world will celebrate International Education Day. As the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) rightly puts it, education is humanity’s greatest renewable resource.

Done right, learning can empower people, preserve the planet, build shared prosperity and foster peace.

But how do we produce men who empower people, preserve the planet, build shared prosperity and foster peace? Not easy, but there is an ancient Grecian remedy. Poet Pindar put it thus: ‘Learn what you are and be such.’ Many learned others who came after him said the same thing but in different words: learn to be a good man.

A good man will necessarily be a good citizen. Yes, we must equip our children with the practical skills to live a good life.

But more than that, we must make them good men. Perhaps Martin Luther King Jr said it well:‘Intelligence plus character is the goal of true education.

Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society.’

If the aim is to shape the child as an integrated human being - one who is intellectually and spiritually complete - then we must put in place a system that does that. In a plural society such as Malaysia, where every race wants what is good for itself, such a goal will have to confront many hurdles.

Even the teaching of language, and the national language at that, generates endless debate. What’s more, if issues of spiritual education are thrown into this uneasy mix. But confront we must.

Otherwise, we will end up educating only the intellect. And that, as Martin Luther King had warned, may prove to be ‘the greatest menace to society’.

The common man - the one on the Rapid omnibus - often mistakes religious education to be all about holy texts and the hereafter.

Not so. It is as much about life on planet Earth as life hereafter. A typical syllabus includes religious sciences and rational sciences.

There is equal emphasis on religious texts, theology and metaphysics on the one hand and human sciences, natural sciences and applied sciences on the other.

The argument here is teaching of character needs a context, the setting of religious sciences. Many schools in Europe with a religious-education focus, adopt this approach.

So do institutions that teach Islam.

If the damage done by men to men or to the planet is to be a measure of the success of our education system - in Malaysia and elsewhere - then it has failed us miserably.

Men continue to maim and murder despite two world wars in one century. Of the two, World War 2 was the deadliest with one estimate putting the number of people killed at 85 million.

World War 1 may have taken fewer lives, but it was still a tragic 22 million.

And we have not stopped killing. We have not even finished counting the human cost in Iraq, we are already at war in Syria and Yemen.

Other wars are brewing. We may have had the years at school, but educated we are not.

Perhaps we have forgotten the formula. To be truly educated, our intelligence quotient must equal our spiritual quotient. E=iq,sq.
The yearning for power, trapping of wealth and basking in glory needs a moral revolution to change the past negative culture.

Whether there will be a moral revolution or not, one have to wait for it to develop. Even if it does not comes, an education system that imbue spirituality will create positive attribute of benefit to the nation.

Sack Board members of TH or face backlash from Muslim!

The tenure of the full Board of Directors (BoD) of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) is due to expire any day now.

If Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin intend to stay long as PM, he should override the Minister in the Prime Minister Department in charge of Islamic Affair and sack the the whole evil lot of the BOD, especially Dato Zaiton binti  Hassan.

Subsequently, he should establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry with the objective of investigating and charging all of them in court for criminal offenses.

Ignoring this warning will result in backlash and anger from the Muslim community once the whole truth known of the manipulations, falsehoods and slanders by those intent to reduce TH to merely a travel agent and deposit taking and staff to be salesman for Bank Islam products!

The Wahabi Dr Zulkifli Mohamad al Bakri should be sternly warned by Muhyiddin not to interfere and engage the BOD of TH to whiten the evil lots.

In the past and present, Dr Zul has habitually provide cover for religious wrongdoings, deviants and anti-Islamic movements by disrupting investigations and actions through engagement with these perpetrators.

It gives then space to be left unhindered to continue their ill intentions against established Islamic practises and institutions.

Daim-men Chairman

The current BOD and management of TH have criminally committed slander, cruelly fixing staff and management up, concocting fictitious allegations now proven to be wrong and carrying out self serving decisions in the management of TH.

The 9 membered BOD is led by Chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof who is Chairman of Malaysia Airlines. It is hardly any secret that the former Bank of Commerce banker is Tun Daim Zainuddin man and was appointed at the request of Council of Emminent Persons (CEP) in which Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz is a member.

The former banker played a significant role in the clearance sales of TH assets and at Daim's instruction, sytematically made TH operationally redundant by putting a full stop to all investment activities.

Mohd Nor was responsible for the scripted lies and slanders concoted for PH to use against former BN government and previous management. He created fear to result in a bank run among depositers to ensure they withdraw from TH and place money with Bank Islam.

To themselves in the future, they did not reinstate the suspended management but instead brought people from MAS to head finance. Mohd Nor failed in his turnaround of MAS. Does he expect MAS staff able to turnaround the financial affair of TH?

Evil Empress Dowager

The person instrumental in getting BIMB staff to dominate all levels of TH and despite not familiar with Haj Operation, insisted to be send for duty to Mekah for Haj last few years is former BIMB Director and TH Drector, Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan.

Zaiton should be considered as “tali barut” to Lim Guan Eng to help destroy TH. “Tali barut” is a Malay derogatory term to describe perpatrators covorting with communist enemies to result in the atrocities on and death to Malays during Bintang Tiga occupation of Malaya after the end of World War II.

For her services, Zaiton was rewarded with an RM800,0000 a year package to be Chairman of Bank Pembangunan.

Instead of turning around the Bank, as usual she is busy  with organisational politics and witch hunting as she had done at TH. The Edge repeatedly wrote of her failure to bring about any turnaround at the Bank.

Any claim on achievement will be mere window dressing. Tengku Zafrol or the Minister responsible should be sack her from the Bank!

Together with Mohd Nor, Zaiton played a leading role in concocting lies and slander towards BN government and cheap sales of TH asset.

And, she was personally responsible for TH losing RM50 million for subscribing in bonds issued by her former Maybank collegue company, Offshore Works Sdn Bhd for which she played a role in orginating the bond through her private consultancy practise.

As member of the BOD of Bank Islam, it was clear cut conflict of interest and abuse of power. BNM covered for her.

Zaiton played a role to end the cooperation between TH and Sultan Pahang in plantation and is believed to have given wrongful information to Sarawak Report. It tarnished the good name of DYMM Yang Dipertuan Agong.

She lied, slandered and cruelly fixed six top management of TH with false allegation in their police report with intention to replace them, but police found no wrongdoings done and yet all have not been reinstated to their previous positions.

In cahoot with Bank Negara Malaysia, specifically former and prersent Governors, Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz and Dato Nor Shamsiah, Zaiton, former CEO Dato Zukri and supported by current CEO Dato Nik Hasyudeen, they made claims of accounts manipulation, unjustified hibah and allegation of infringment in accounting standards and Tabung Haji Act by the previous management.

Till today, the current management has yet to sort out the 2018 accounts to meet the wishful accounting standard and approved by Auditor General to be in compliance with the governing Act of TH.

The public were being duped by then opposition and opposition sympathiser in the mass media who created the impression there were massive wrongdoings in Lembaga Tabung Haji.

The convenient political targeted former Chairman, Dato Azeez Rahim and former CEO Tan Sri Ismee Ismail has yet to be charged for any wrongdoings.

Not even any remand order by police or MACC.

Till today, all of Zaiton's concocted lies have NOT been proven true.

All!

Sack all BOD

Tun Dr Mahathir had three appointees in Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman,  Datuk Akhbar Samon and Datuk Ahamed Basheer. Basheer is said to be Tun’s adopted son and had interfered in the affairs of TH subsidiaries.

Mujahid-appointee Prof Dr Ashraf Md Hashim played a role to change the basis of TH savings account from Wadiah Yad-Dhamanah to Wakalah as the step to remove guarantee from the savings deposit.

Azmin-appointee,  Datuk Noordin Sulaiman is a weak and hopeless members of the BOD members. He merely follow the crowd and easily influencedby the other politically motivated BOD members.

Sack him too!

Management

Subsequent to Dato Zukri’s resignation, he was replaced by auditing firm owner, Datuk Nik Hasyudeen.

Nik is a known staunch Amanah party member and affilated to anti-Islamic establishment acticist group, IKRAM. He carried out Zaiton’s agenda to cut TH role to size by cutting Haj subsidy and increase cost of Haj to unaffordable level. He approved the closure of 16 branches .

Where Zaiton and BNM once claimed TH misuse reserve to pay hibah, he had done the same recently. He used “haram” source of money to distribute food  to frontliners during the pandemic recently.

He allegedly collaborated with Zaiton to tarnish the good name of YDP Agong.

Before joining TH, he was vocal in attacking previous management and BOD and open support for Zaiton on his Facebook. These days he evade to answer questions posed against him for the non-conforming practises on his Facebook.

His wrongdoings are known within TH. He camouflage by spending a lot of time sermonising and spinning Quranic verses to inspire, them but actually he is guilty conscious for hypocritically breaking the laws he accused previous management of committing!

Current Wrongdoings

The wrongdoings of the past have been expensively written elsewhere and it will be briefly touch in the list. However, the current management led by accountant Dato Nik Hasyudeen Yusof continued to infringe on the established policies, accounting policies and governing act.

Their wrongdoings are enlisted below in no particular order:
1. Appointment of Chief Strategy and Chief of Staff did not go through the correct process.

2. Appointment of external consultant i.e. Ernst & Young, Public Relation Consultant, did not through the correct process

3. Transfer of assets to Special Purpose Vehicle (Urus Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB)) without government guarantee

4. Abolishment of investment committee resulting in abuse of power by the BOD.

8. Using non-syariah funds (haram) to  sponsor food for frontliners

9. Using of zakat fund to sponsor a professional body e.g. Malaysian Institute of Accountant

10. Propose abolishment of Haj subsidy as per approval by previous BOD and cabinet

11. Witch hunting as proven framm the suspension of old members of magament up till todate

12. Proposing to abolish the government guarantee with the changes of Wadiah Yadhaman to Wakala

13. Recruitment of many high ranking staff which is in duplicate to the current staff strength

14. Board of Directors minutes only show decision and not the deliberation. It is an attempt to hide wrongdoings

15. Suspension of scholarships for TH staff and depositors

16. Denying staff retiring from earning their rightful gratuity

17. Amending the authority limit to cater for the new management own needs

18. Turning TH to operate and be  like a bank

19. Denying the TH staff from performing their Haj duty and instead offering to Bank Islam staff

20. CEO offfice is treated as a private office instead of a public office to serve the public as phone calls, emails are not attended to

21. Certain BOD members have authority over other BOD members with the case in point: Zaiton

22. Constructive dismissal in play for the old management as they are suspended for an unspecified duration.

23. The staff are blackmail to the core and they are afraid to voice out their grievances

24. Instructions given are to be adhered and cant be questioned

25. Putting TH in a bad limelight resulting in large withdrawal of funds totalling RM5b and fund size shrink to RM68b (Dec 2019) frm RM75b ( 2018)

26. Putting certain Director(s) in control of (power on) everything, no separation of duties between Management and BOD.

27. Abuse usage of media and Public Relation Consultant to throw a bad light on previous TH BOD and Management

28. New Management did not follow proper procedures in the police report resulted in no natural justice given to the staff affected.

29. The new Management disclosed confidential matters to Strait Times Singapore to spin their slander/libel.

30. Appointment of cronies as staff without proper process and proper justification on the creation of the position, many redundant positions being created which is a waste of TH hard earned income

31. Issuing dividend from unrealised Sukuk profit which may not materialised in the future and subjected TH to great loss later.

32. No proper valuation done on the transfer of assets which has being highlighted by Auditor General in the 2018 Audit Report

33. TH Plantation issues of manipulating the valuation report by Government Valuers and forcing the assets to be sold at lower than the government valuation.

34. The new Management and BOD failed to carry out their fiduciary duties to generate income for TH,  but instead time spent for witch hunting resulted in no new investment pipeline for future income

35. Sukuk created to camouflage their incompetencies in managing the funds and simply do a window dressing exercise of which it is not a real solution for TH, but merely transferring the problems into another government entity.

It is not a long term solution and they have not really saved or clean TH, but merely sweeping the issues to another entity for temporary basis . Should UJSB failed to create value on the assets transferred, UJSB will not be able to pay TH and TH will suffer bigger loss.

36. No fit and proper justification to appointments...

Zaiton used to promote TH Offshore sukuk and resulted in TH loss of RM40m, BIMB loss of RM50m yet she still be appointed as member of the Board of Directors of TH

37. Mohd Nor failed in his two entities, which he was the chairman i.e. MAS and Khazanah yet Tun still appoint him as Chairman for TH.

38. Zaiton blatantly lied to the public during the interview session on TV Hijrah with regards to government guarantee on sukuk when she was fully aware there will be no government guarantee. As a member of the Board of Director handling the sukuk deal she blatantly lied to the public on national TV to misguide the public
There are still more. The most explosive is to come.

Social media made issue over Chinese CEO of Prokhas. His race was an irrelevant. There is a person appointed to manage TH asset is under MACC investigation. It is suspected that Mujahid made the appointment to save him or her from being charged.

With a crook being given position, he or she will carry out any instruction given, even how destructive the action may result to the organisation in order to save themselves.

There is a long list of chargeable wrongdoings, Muhyiddin must act without fear or political favour. NO COVER-UP for his past association and likely collaboration with these pencuri, perompak, penyamun and penyangak!!!
